GAR Y SCOTT CAPS 50 LAPPER By Eddie Smith SOUTH GATE, CALIF., July 30, 1970Mounted on his Kawasaki Gary Scott rode to victory in Trojan Spe~dway's fifty Iapper for the 100-125cc bikes. Dale Hopkins jumped into an early lead when he got into the first turn ahead of the other bikes. 'Hookins was chased by ROD Morrison mounted on a Kawasaki with Gary Scott right on his tall. Scot finally got around Morrison and then took off after Hopkins. Scott started closing the gap between himself and Hopkins in a hurry. Hopkins had a near coll1si,on with Kawasaki rider ,Bob Sanders when Sanders spun out. Scott then took over the lead for keeps and started putting ground between him and Hopkins. Scott won the race with Dale Hopkins holding onto second place. Rob Morrison finished third with Ron Williams taking fourth on his Hodaka. The pressure increased as ail the riders bid for one of the twelve starting positions in the fifty Iapper. In the first semi main, three bikes tangled going into the first turn of the dog leg. Tommy Horton riding a Kawasaki, got his elbow caught in the chain of another bike in the'" mishap. Tommy was back for the restart, but to no avail. He found himself in another pile up in the same turn. Horton got up and back on the line for the second restart. This time the race got underway and Horton took second. Gary Scott rode to victory in three trophy dashes during the evening. Scott won the 250 TT and flat track dashes and 'then won the 100 flat track dash. Dale 'Hopkins won the other two dashes mount. ed on his Yamaha. Dale's wins came in the 100-125 TT combined and then in the 125 flat track dashes. Scott did not settle for the fifty Iapper and the dashes, but he went on to win the 250 TT main event by a large margin over Charles Gann. barry Taylor took third in the race. The 250 flat track main also went to Scott as he brought his Bultaco in ahead of Stan Rogers who was mounted on a Kawasaki. Charles Gann took the third spot. Ron Will1ams won the 100 flat track main event by beating Bob W1ll1ams to the flnish line. Gary Scott had to settle for the third spot in this race. Dale Hopkins was the winner of the 125 flat track main. Hank Scott was second on his Yamaha, while another Yamaha rider, D. C. Ralph placed third. A 250cc fifty Iapper over the fast TT course at Trojan Speedway will take place, next week August 6th. Gary Scott, who won the fifty Iapper on July 2nd, will 'be back for this event. Racing starts at 7:30" with a complete schedule of racing over the' flat track and the TT course. Riders from ail over California wU1 be on hand to try and take home a chunk of the three-hundred dollar purse. Twelve bikes will start in the fifty lapper. (Results on page 26)
