HINSDALE, ILL. June 26, 1970 - With
fast time and a Championship win, TT
spec1al1st Eddie Mulder made his trip
to the East worthwhile. However, it appeared to be Mark Brelsford's evening,
and had not more ill luck plagued the
Harley Davidson XR, Mulder'swlnwould
not have come so easily.
Eddie picked up fift;y dollars for turning the fastest quallftcation lap of the
evening, but during the first Expert beat,
Mark traIled him doggedly for the full
ten: laps, setting him up for a last-lap
defeat. Brelsford passed Mulder so
easily OIl the final turns before the jump
it appeared that be could have done it at
any time, and that be was merely tormenting his Triumpb-mounted opponent.
Skip Van Leeuwen got the final transferring position in this fastest Expert
beat.
Jim Rice ran away with the second
Expert heat with Gene Romero and Bart
Markel following at a distance. Gene had
problems mainta1n1ng traction all evening, fall1ng several times. Bart's ride
was inspired and his XR was strong.
After a mediocre start, he cut througb
the field and was hounding Romero before
the flag fell.

Mert LawwIll was riding a KR, saving
his fresh XR for Columbus, and in the
early laps he rolled to a stoP. A broken
cam f1n1sbed his chances for Santa Fe
gold.
National points leader Dick Mann won
the third beat, followed by Dave SeM and
Dust;y Coppage. Coppage led early in the
