June 13, 1970 - Mike Corcoran, Rio Lindo won b1s twelfth Handicap Maio Event at Chico Saturday night 'and thus earned the tiUe of "Scratchmao." Th1s is a special tiUe here at Cycleland Speedway, and earned Mike a trophy with twelve scratch marks slgo1fy1og he is a "Scratchman." He now lolos the select, George McCarty, Red Bluff, Dick Turner, Red muff, and Mike Rockwell, Palermo as the "Seratclimen" at Cycleland Speedway. Mike on b1s Montesa enjoyed an outstanding eveDing here w1oo1og b1s heat 10 the handicap event and later tak10g the handicap f1oa1 10 the 250cc class. Dick Turner. Triumph and Terry Hughes, Husky hooked handlebars and sUd to the ground 10 the south corner wIl11e leading tb1s event. Mike, 10 tb1rd place at the time, took the 10side route and won by twenty yards over Lowell Moural, Yamaha who rides Uke "his hair is on fire," and Ron Scott, Yamaha from Redding. Dick Turnter blasted off the Une 10 the Scratch f10al and it appeared the event was in his bag. Nobody in the past tb1s season has been able to catch Turner once he had the lead. However. Terry Hughes on b1s swift Husky made the effort and soon was dogg1og Dick's rear wheel. Then Dick charged too hard into the North corner and began to sUde down tak10g Mr. Hughes with him to the 10side of the corner. Lady Luck was certa101y with Mike this eveD1og, however Mike is the type of rider who f10ds b1s own luck, as he rides 1ook1og coostanUy. for the breaks, aDd then has the habits of mak10g the breaks loto b1s luck. The 200cc Handicap aDd Scratch Ma10s were put away by Jim Hubbard, Chico, on b1s 175cc Yamaha. Their tally for the first three d the six AMA sanctioned races for the North Bay Motorcycle Club now stands at 800. The next race at the Chris Beck Areoa is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., August 8th. Practice starts at 5. That is a date change from the published date of August 15. Dur10g loterm1ssion, North Bay Motorcycle President, Max Hurlburt presented a check for $1600.50 to Len Powers, President of the Grace Reese Center Parents Club. The check was the proceeds from the benef1t race of May 16 held 10 conjunction w1tb the Jaycee sponsored Rose Festival. The annual benef1t race by the club is one of the h1gger fund ra1s1og events loconjunction with the Rose Festival.
