~ ~ ~ CMC MOTOCROSS NINE MOTOS FOR WILSON AT ASCOT Ronald moved here last week and is currently living with John and his wite in Long Beach. And for the henef1tatyou dealers who may be 100ldng for a rider, tile Hawaiian champ is in the market for a CZ mount. It's a good bet that Ronald w1ll regularly tind his name at the top at the list on the Results page. . Good raclng was also plentiful in the he almost pulled it out. But his friends (?), stationed on the bank, were having none of it and began pelting him witil dirt clods and mUd. Watkins flnisljed the moto in the water, and, for good measure, pulled a repeat performance on his next ride. Rider and spectator turnout was ott slightly from last week and the week Out of focus spectators watch al most in focus Husky rider. GARDENA, CALIF. June 4, 1970- Apparently smarting from a one point loss to tile East Coast Motocross Team last week in Pepperell. Mass., West Coast Team Captain, Jim wUson, attacked tbe Ascot course witil a vengeance Thursday n1ght, w1nnlng a total 01. nine motos and overall victories in tile 125cc, 250Cc and 500cc Ex/lnt. classes at tile weekly C.M.C. event. For tile most part, Wl.ison came from beb1nd to get tile victories, as Tim Hart (Mon.), John DeSoto (CZ) and Scott Sivadge (Yam,) provided competition aplenty. The team captain, who rides tile 250Cc and 500Cc events for Greaves distributor Nick Nicholson, rode anAustriaD made Pooh in tile 125cc class. Wilson's closest call came in tile t1na1 mota 01. tile 500cc go, when West Coast Team Co-Captain, Tim Hart, managed to hold ott tile young rider from Walteria, Calif. unW tile end 01. tbe last lap. But, true to form, wUson capitalized on one 01. Hart's infrequent miscues, sneaking under for the wave 01. tbecheckeredtlag. John DeSoto also gave Wilson a run for his money, as the stocky Hawaiian built up a sizeable lead in tile second 250Cc moto. But he misjudged a corner and palntu1ly hit his hand against a post. He dropped back to fourth and Wilson went on to win tile event. And speaklngol. DeSoto, John's 18 year old brotiler, Ronald, made· his first California appearance in the 250 Jr. class. Young DeSoto is tile number one 250 rider in Hawaii, and looked every bit the part in his debut on tile Ascot turf. He took easy wins in his first two matos, but unintentional course cutting in tile final round disqualified him, and he had to settle for tbtrd overall. Jim Wilson on his way to one of his nine victories Thursday night. 125cc Jr. go, where Jeff Cruzan (Bul), the rider who was taken to tile hosPital last week witil minor injuries, put togetiler a first and two seconds for overall class honors. Yamaha mounted Ken Cooke took second place, while Louie Dunn (Bul) and Jessie Slaton (Bul)pul1ed down tbtrd and fourth, respectively. Cruzan, Dunn and Slaton all ride and/or work for CbaJnpion Motorcycles in Costa Mesa. Don Watkins Jr., tile 250ce Jr. Montesa hot shot, found his ~y into tile Ascot pond wb11e leading his second mota. His machine continued.to run br1et1y, and before, altilough, tbe event was sWl a tlnanc1al success. Better weather and school vacation are ex,pected to boost attendance at fortilcomlng events. As in past weeks, an inordinate amount at pit racing marred an otberwise soocesstul endeavor. However, CMC president, Stu Peters, said that trom here on out, pit racers would be ident1tled and disqualUied trom competition. If so, tileir names w1l1 be carried in tb1s publication. Motocross racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday, witil pit gates openlng at 5:30 p.m. (Results on page 22) TRY FE PLUS AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. 1500 YAMAHA DEALERS ·CAN'T BE WRONG J.N.
