Speedway Programed For Fair COSTA MESA, CAL, - Champioosh1p motorcycle racing will be a new feature of the 1970 Orange County Fair and EXPosition, slated for Tuesday, July 14, through Sunday, July 19, at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds. The announcement came today from general manager Alfred G. LutJeans. Champion racers will "pound the ground" on Class A Speedway cycles at the Fairgrounds Arena on Friday evening, July 17, during Fair Week '70. June 7, 1970 Despite overcast sides and light morning drizzle, 1700 spectators were on hand to cheer a field of 145 riders, at the Expert M.C, TT races here at South Bay speedway. This is an all time record of riders for TT racing in the District 38. The track was in the best condition ever, due to the decomposed granite and adobe composition combined with the light rainfall. All classes, both Novice and Expert, were featured. Since only two members of the Powder Puff set, Lorri Fuller and Debbie Reon, were present, they participated in the male ~OOCc Novice class. Back in action this week was 250Cc EllPert Ray Vanderpool, after missing the cycle races on May 24th. The Vanderpools were having tIIeir own race with the stork, Missing the action this week for the same reason was Side Hack racer, Wayne Chapman. The ambulance crew was pressed into service several times, but lucidly there were no serious injuries. The Speedway at Mesa will be kept busy every weekend during the entire month of June. Hi Boots M,C. will be sponsoring the TT races on June 14th, Mesa M.C, on June 21st and ACA will hold professional open races, both TT and 1/2 mUe, on June 28th.
