Rod Gould scored his first Grand Prix victory in a drama packed 250cc race in the second world championship round French GP on the 2.7 mlle Bugattl ctrcult at Le Mans. First round winnerandre1gn1ngchampion Kel Carruthers falled to score after fall1ng, without serious injury, and Santiago Herrero joined Gould in the points scoring with a second place on his Ossa despite a 12th lap tumble. After five exciting weeks of qualifying races International Racing Enterprises has assembled a team of West Coast motocross riders to challenge an East Coast team at Pepperell, Mass. on May 31. Captain Jim Wllson (Greeves) and Cocaptain Tim Hart (Montesa) wW team with John Rice (Ma1co), and John DeSoto (CZ), Jlm O'Neal (CZ) and Jlm West (AJS). wW be flying from L.A . International' at 11 p.m. on Friday, May 29th aboard TWA's fllght 11'74. Eastern riders wW be led into the fray by Barry Higgins of Inter-Am fame! but both Bob Thompson and "Super Bruce" McGuire are recovering from injuries and their starting ability is still in doubt. Other probable Eastern team riders include Bob Ismalof and Charlie Vincent. Husky rider Bllly Clements is also making the trip in the event the one of the other riders can't make the tour. Herrero, who wW contest all th1s year's 250 Grands Prix on the works Ossa, went to Modena last week and tried the latest four from the BeneW factory. Although no officlal statement has been made by BeneW it seems that Herrero could be a temporary replacement for Ranzo Pasollnl who injured his foot when he crashed whlle learning the Nurburgring circult on a BeneW roadster. Kawasaki Service Sweepstakes KawasaId Motors Company has announced a six-month sweepstakes contest "to promote bdter, more knowledgeable service to KawasaId owners," according to Al Goslee, National Service Manager. . This unique contest, open to all KawasaId personnel, is actually a self-training course on a national level. The operation wW put Banks out of competition for four months, it was stated in the British weekly Motor Cycle News. He was injured after w1nn1ng the first round of the current British 500cc title series which wW necessitate a muscle transplant.
