Improvements For Cycle Wheels On The Way : / :',* rd Something new for motorcycles may be just around the corner. It is a magnesium alloy wheel for motorcycles. John McLaughlin, proprietor of John McLaughlin Honda, is testing this new idea on his own Honda Four with nothing but good results after more than 1000 miles or. riding. These wheels are said to create a completely new condition as to handling of a motorcycle. The reason for th.is is that these magnesium wheels will weigh substantially less than the standard spoke wheel. Cutting down on the unsprung weight, as these wheels do, Is the key to the improved handling. This wheel will be much more rig.id than a standard spoke wheel which also contributes to better handling. And they will take tubeless tires. Mr. McLaughlin feels that they will ' appeal to both the road rider and racer alike who is looking for the best In the way of wheels. When the wheels are put on the market they will be sold in the form of a kit so that each customer's individual needs may be filled correctly. EVEL UNLOADS IN YAKIMA . . ~~ The above sequence vividly depicts just how Evel Knievel landed in the Yakima, Wash. hospital. A telephone call from his home in Butte, Mont., however, found the king of motorcycle jumping in good spirits and recovering rapidly. So rapidly, in fact, that he plans a try at the indoor world's record (11 cars) in Vancouver a.c. on June 19. Describing the pictures, Evel said, "I tried to stay on, but the dam thing had a mind of its own. I hung on for another thirty or forty feet, thinking to myself, 'this American Eagle bucks l ike a horse I used to see around those Montana Rodeo grounds, called Trails End,' When it finally spit me off, theEagle was coureous enough to dump me right in front of an ambulance. The pavement tore the cuff links right off those beautiful leathers that Wanda Picohadmade for me. But, oh happy day - saved again by a full coverage helmet and a red, white and blue leather suit.
