BURT'S BSA AT HUNT'NGTON ~ By Eddie Sm ith HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF. May 10, 1970 - NIne ty-one hIkes and r iders were on hand at Huntington Beach Cycle P ark for an afternoon of TT racing. Chet Burt r Idin g a BSA was the winner In the Open Expert moto. Burt took over first place In the last race of the day when the leader Ronald Po well dumped over his Trfum ph, Powell leaned his bike over too much an d his foot peg dug Into the track . P owell recovered from the fall an d f1n1shed third. BUI Bartels on a Trfumph finIshed second. Th e Open NovIce moto was won by Tom Shumord mounted on a BSA. James Russell placed his BSA second, whUe Steve Thomas also on a BSA finished third, Riding a Bultaco, Tom White was the winner of the 250 Expert. JIm Peters on, r IdIng an Ossa, was second. Ron Powell brought hls Bultaco Into thI rd place. On the third lap Greg Wickam trying to pass Peterson hit some lose dirt and dumped his bIke over . During the 250 Expert heat race, Allen Armstrong rIding a Yamaha, took to the dirt with his bIke coming down on top of him . The accIdent which happened on the last lap sent Armstrong to the hospttal with a compound-fracture of his rIght foot. . The 250 NovIce MaIn Event was won by Jerry Greer. Jerry, who was mounted on a Bultaco, bullt up a good lead over second place finisher Tom GUlespie, who was riding a Kawasaki. MOj1Dted on a Yamaha was Jim Shipman, who was the third place fInisher. Greer placed second In the 250 Novice heat race, ran In the Expert class as well. Jerry took a fifth place In the Expert 250 MaIn Ev ent. •. In the Expert 125 moto, Hank Scott ~ came out on top rIding a Yamaha. Steve Harrera was second with Dennis Hanson placing third. Rodney Parsons, rIding a Bultaco, won all three moto races In the 125 Novice class . John sperry pushed his bike across the fInish Une In the third moto to f1n1sh second over all; Sperry's chain came off an d ended his chance for first place. Steve Stanfield rode his Kawasaki to vi ctory in the 100 Novice class. RIck Isbell placed second on his Kawasaki. Only July 12th, Huntington Beach Cycle Park will have a 50 lap Grand Prfx, All bIkes wUl run In the same race with trophies gIven to each class. (Results were run In last week's ~ssue) Speedway . .
