May 17, 1970 Jim Wilson was named Captain of the six man West motocross team today, culminating a five event elimination series, that ended with Wllson, Tim Hart (Co -Captain), . John Rice, John DeSoto, Jim O'Neal and Jim West being selected to compete in a two match series against a similar team from the East Coast. The selection followed Sunday's final round of competition at Bay Mare Raceway. . From the moment the starters flag dropped on the 250 arid 500Cc Senior events - Jim Wilson (Greaves) and Hart (Montesa) were In continuous battle . Wilson pulled away In the first and third 250Cc motos, to take the win , but In the second moto Hart held Wilson at bay, just winning the event. Jim West (AJS) locked uP enough points In the first two motos - 2 thirds to just edge out Jim O'Neal (CZ) with a third and two fourths. Hart and Wllson were off In the 500 Senior class, with Jim winning the first moto and Tim the second. Justbefore the final go, Jim Wllson was crowned Captain, and Hart the Co-Captain . This would be" the last time they would com pete In this series. Jim took the lead with Tim close behind. But as laps rolled by, Wilson slowly pulled away to win. The East team has still not been selected, as there is one more event In that eUmlnation ser i es on May 24. However, Eastern point leaders to date are Bruce McGuire and Jim Weinert In the 500Cc class, and Barry Higgins, Bob Thompson and CharUe Vincent In the 250cc class.
