PALMDALE, CAL. Mar. 29. 1970-Inter national Racing Enterprises moved
motocr oss to the high deser t thi s Easter
weekend and br ought with them th e Easter
bunny, at least a hundred kids scrambling
for plastic eggs, sunny (li windy) weather and some top notch wheel to wheel
racing.
Ably assisted by the F our Aces M .C.
the organizers put on a well run show
with a minimum of hassles.
The Anzac course, built recently near
Palmdale, Is a long, twisting affair with
high speed jumps and endless bumps.
That desert sand has the same com paction properties everywhere and the
course could be descrfbed as a v'Ponderosa with turns".
Jim WUson brought along his flying
circus of various sized Greeves Grillons
and toward the end of the day it was almost ho-hum untIl second and third came
into sight so the spectators could watch
some action. Jim'S flawless rides won
his six mo to s in both the 250 and 500
Expert classes. F lawless ? Well, not
qui te .
In the first 250 Expert race Jim and
anoth er collided In mi d air goin g over
the fir st jump and fo und themselves on
their hands and knees dodgin g the rest
of the pack . Jim picked everyth i ng up and
used the r emaining si x laps to catch and
pass everyone in sight. The last to fall
to Ji m' S charge was Terry Clark who
rode out of the deser t on a Yamaha in
one of his rare motocross appearances.
Terry sho wed everyone that he didn 't
need lime marks to show him the way
around and took a second In class after
racing well with WUson and Bruce Baron
in the 250 Exper t program.
Another desert ace who came out to
give motocross a try was Di st. 37' s
number one big bike rider, Whitey Martino. Whitey said he wasn't used to all the
turns and gear shUting and noted there
were no big 100 mph slides to do here.
Whitey rode the 500 Expert class and took
a creditable fourth behin d Mr. Wilson
The Easter egg hunt attracted a mob of youngsters. Some sought the
eggs, most were work ing for the Minibike that was given away.
