Harsha Tops Amateurs At SeTA Trials By Bonnie Barton Photos by Gary Barton LITTLEROCK, CALIF. March 22, 1970Twenty one sections of varing degrees of d1t!iculty greeted over 180 riders, who journeyed to the h1gh desert community of Littlerock Sunday for another SCTA Trials. Competlng In the' morning were the over one hundred Arnateurrfders, competing on eight sections and four loops, around a relatively short two mUe course. Sections were compr15ed of rocks, 'sand, tight turns and some fun filled rides uP and down the gullles that abound In this foothill locale. Surprise victory of the day was young Doug Harsha, who topped all, lncludlng the 250's on hls m1n1-trlaler, 125cc Sprite. Nearly 50 women and kids competed In the morning, on 5 sections located Inside the camping area. Of the 8 women competlng Connie Becker (Hodaka) took top honors, with a loss of 10 marks. Second and third went to Lorna Buop (Yamaha) and Non Ruby (Lobito). A three way tie between Dave Carlson (Hodaka), Chr15 Butler (Hodaka), and Brian Myerscough (Honda-M1n1) was broken In a special ride off, when Carlson fived. However, Myerscough and Butler tied once aga1n and it was decided to give both youngsters identical 1st place trophlas, In the afternoon the Expert/Masters took to the course for their own 8 sections, 4 lap contest. Top honors went to Bultaco mounted Kevin Walker with a loss of 41 marks. This was Kevin 's 1st victory In Master class competition. SCTA number one rider Bob Nickelsen (Bultaco) followed Kevin by 3 marks to place second, and John Walters (Bultaco), uP from San Diego, dropped 1 mark more than Nichelsen to wrap uP 3rd place honors. Richard Bledsoe (Bultaco), hottest rider In the Expert class these days, was pressured to his victory by excellent ridlng on the part of 1st time Expert Fernando Belair (Montesa). Bledsoe lost 58 marks and Belair dropped 3 more, for a 61 point final tally. " (Results on page 31) Jim Raymond stretches aut his foot and his lead In the 100tc TT.
