Feb. 27,1970Trojan Speedway put on its first show last night on the newly enlarged track. The flat track is now a quarter m1le oval. The TT course was also changed and now has a bigger [ump, The new track is muCh faster then the old one. Larry Shaw won two trophy dashes on the new track. Shaw rode a Kawasaki In the 100 TT dash and a Bultaco In the 250 flat track dash. On his Bultaco Larry Shaw won the 250 flat track main. Larry also placed second In the 100 TT Main on a Kawasaki. He f1n1shed lh1rd In the 100 flat track main riding a Kawasaki. W1nn1ng two main events at Trojan was Steve Bast. He rode a Yamaha In the 250 TT main to a victory. Steve also was mounted on a Yamaha In the 125 flat track ma1n event which he also won. Besides w1nn1ng the two ma1n events Steve Bast placed lh1rd In the 250 flat track and lh1rd In the 125 TT mains. He also rode Yamahas In both events. Danny Hockie who won the Friday the 13th 50 lapper had some bad luck tbJs week. Hockie dumped his bike over twice. In the 250 flat track dash he cl1pped ShaW's rear whee1andwentover. Hockie on his Ossa was leading the 250 TT ma1n when another rider hit Danny's bike and ended his chances for a victory. Fortunately Danny was not hurt In either spill. (Results on page 19) Mike Hallwood, nine times World Champion road racer and holder of the world'S one hour speed record set at DaytOna In 1964 w1l1 ride a BSA Rocket Three In the Daytona 200 March 15th. The announcement came from BSA's Eastern offices early last week. BSA team riders Dave Aldana and Jim Rice w1l1 also be competing but their specialty is dirt track and Mike's road racing excellence and Daytona experience greatly Increases BSA's chances for a win In the National classic. Hallwood retired from motorcycle racing In 1968 and turned his Interests toward racing four-wheelers. Mike was known to have become disenchanted with the cars but details of how he was coa.xed back Into motorcycle racing by BSA are unclear at this time. A press .confer ence is slated when Mike gets to Daytona and the world w1l1 be waiting to hear about his future plans with BSA and motorcycle racing. The Daytona rnach1nes are being bulll - In England and Hallwood and the other riders w1l1 try them for the first time when they arrive at the speed bowl. However, some technical detalls are available and the new bikes sound like they just could be the rig to catch the checkers at Daytona. Horsepower is rated at a phenom1na1 85 at the rear wheel and that translates to 170 mph high up on the wall. Frame and forks have been spec1a1ly developed for road racing at the BSA research and development plant In Umberslade, England. Falrings underwant testing In the RAF wind tunnel at Farnsborough and the BSA aerOdynamicist is coming over to keep thtngs as slippery as possible. Brakes are a 250mm Fontana 4 leadtng shoe unit In the front and the rear boasts a 12" Lockheed hydraulic disc. The clutch linkage is also hydraulic and special Daytona compound Dunlop tires are fitted. Fuel is carried In a 6.2 gallon maximum allowable sized tank and the overall weight is put at 400 pounds plus. HUNTINGTON BEACH CYCLE PARK DEVELOPS MINI COURSE HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF . Feb. 10, 1970 - Bowing to popular demand, Huntington Beach Cycle Parkhasconstructed a brand new m1n1bike TT course andh1ll climbs for m1n1bikes only. It got the stamp of approval from Robert "Crash" Rankin, one of the better known m1n1bike racers. The new minibike course was designed and bullt under the watchful eye of lltue 10 year old minibike rider, Mark England, who drew uP the plans at school. Perhaps this accounts for its Instant popularity with the younger generation. The new course will be open to m1n1bike riders each Saturday from 10 t1ll 4. Safety requirments w1l1 be stressed and each rider will be required to wear helmet and shoes and to come with his parents or guardian. One of the most desired features of the new beach course is that the young rider can choose either the TT type course or the Hill Climbs. .
