_ "" English Trials Gain Enthusiasts In San Joaquin Valle, .......... The Masters didn't have mucb trouble with the first eigbt sections but when they came to the last four they began to lose points. Paul Occliges riding a Bultaco carried away first place after losing only 18 points for the day. Ricbard Hood (Montesa) took second with a 21 point loss . Don Lawrence (Bultaco), the only rider to r epresent Southern California, grabbed thtrd place. Victor Boocock (Bul taco) bad an off day, whicb rarely happens, and picked up tbirty points and fourth place. Robert Tyson (Bultaco) lost tbtrty-two points which might not mean mucb unW you !lnd out that Robert Is only tbtrteen years old and really knows how to handle a motorcycle. The Novice class was divided into two classes which Is rare for Trials but was done because of the difference in the type of motorcycles. The riders didn't feel it was fair for Novices riding the specially designed Trials machines to compete with other Novices who were r iding their dural purpose machines. " A" Class was for riders who ride the Trials ma chines and "B" Class was for riders who rode other than Trials machines . The "A" Class was wonby DwainShockley ( Bultaco) after losing 12 points. Reimer (Bultaco) took second with 25 points. The "B" Class winner was Dick Dwyer (Bultaco Matador ) with 23 points. Darwin Smith (Yamaha) lost 27 points to take second. ~ There were also special classes for women and children. Ricbard Nygdnes riding a Dalsman won the Children's Class and Barbara Robertson riding a Suzuki won the Women's Class. One migbt tbink it odd to have so many different classes, but Trials enthusiasts in the area, particularly Frank Conley, sincerely want to develop the sport in tbts area and have the new riders enjoy Trials. The extra classes give everyone a chance to compete within their machine's and their riding capabilities. Frank Conley bas done more for Trials in Central California than anyone else. Frank designs all the sections at Dunlap and sees to it that the Trials is run smoothly and fal r ly . He is the one wbo decided to add the extra classes. The fact that so many turned out to ride and to watch, many coming the nigbt before, testifies to the growing enthusiasm for Trials in the San Joaquin Valley.
