Hilltoppers Find Perfect Combination At Baymare i Cl., By Jim Brooks BAY MARE Feb. 15, 1970 -Itseemsthat the two days of rain and four days of sunshine was the perfect combination for the track at Bay Mare. The ground was Just perfect, giving plenty of traction for the high speed T.T. ,bikes. In the l00cc classes the Kawasald was the bike to beat. In the Novice Main S. Johnson took f irst place with J. Sexton and T . Johnson coming in second and third, all riding KawasaJds. The Amateur Expert Main sho wed basically the sam e results, G. Scott took first on a Kawas aki. The 125 Amateur-Expert Main provided a different atmosphere with J. Conley taking top honors on his Bultaco, followed by E . Mitchell and H. Scott both on Yamahas. Going Into the 250 classes the pac e began to change , speeds began to pick up as V. Erwin took the 250 Novice Main on a Maico and R . Powell winnIng the 250 A mateur- Exper t Main on his Kawasaid . The M otocr oss events of the day were run at high speeds, with hard r iding N. Cook, Bultaco mounted, coming out wi th the highest total number of points In the ~ 125 Novice and 175-250 Novice. ~ The best competition of the day was "'the 350cc rac es . R . Marqut powered his r.:z Honda to three straight wins in a re - o..J markable race against J . Willi ngham on ~ his Bultaco and C. Hart on a Harl ey- t.) Davidson. The 500cc and Open class took Its toll of r iders, sendin g two of! to the hospital. The 500 Novice Moto was won by W. Rutledge on a BSA . The 500 AmateurExpert was won by J. Connol ly on a Greeves.
