Frank Russo brought home first 500 Amateur on hts Husky while first 125 went to Eric Jensen on that flying Sachs. In checking the long line of finishers we found the first Novice Doug Slumskie on a 500 American Eagle, finished around thirty-seventh. The 100Cc Class went off a half hour after the big bikes whtch they like since they don't run into the dust of the big bikes so soon. At the smoke it was Terry Clark onhtsRoehr Bros. tuned Kawasald Van Tech followed by Jeff Wright on a Rickman. Number one Jack Morgan on a Hodaka moved up with the two leaders three miles after the smoke and all three did battle, swapping the lead back and forth, until Morgan got a flat and Clark led it into the pits , with Wright running second. Mitch Mayes on a Yamaha came through third. At the finish line the question that was being asked by the spectators was wheth- er the 100cc bikes could go the full eighty miles of deep sand. But running well up in the ranks of the big bikes came winner Terry Clark followed by Wright, and Mayes taking third.
