PALMDALE, CAL., Jan. 25 - The first
road race of the ' 70 season was run by
the ACA, which recently acquired property near Palmdale. The area, known
as Anzac, was formerly a drag sl:r1pand
much of the new ACA course utl1lzes
the strip, It's return roads and pit area"
The strip has not been used . for about
two years, and the wind and rain have
done a beautitul j ob of cleaning the surface, thus maIdng traction outstanding
in the corners which means faster times
and safer riding.
With Daytona j ust one month off riders rode Anzac to get back in shape.
Young Daytona hopeful Steve McLaughlin got oft to a good start in the ACA

Wherever You Are
Your challenge to Barker & Riser and all the rest of us
-East Coast Nobodies" has been duly noted. Suchconfidence is commendable, even though unwarranted.
Now, over here we just do our thing the best way we
know how with what we have ou hand. We would be gratefnl
if yon three -List Leaders" would haul your iron across to
the SUNSHINE NATIONALS at GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA
on MARCH 7th and 8th, and show us, in front of a gathering
Daytona 200 crowd and the eyes of CYCLE Magazine, just
how to go about it.
Records set here will be certified and recognized by
N.H.R.A., so there wtll be no question of their validity.
The meet purse now stands at $4000; including contingency
money, so you will be more than able to cover your expenses
after you've blown us into the weeds.
But just to be certain that you start off on an even
footing, the Gainesville Dragway will give to each of.the
three of you, absolutely free, your entry in the SUNSHINE
NATIONALS, an M&H drag slick (depending on availability),
enough of our smog-free atmosphere to fill your ·cylinders
as many times as necessary; and a glass of Florida orange
juice - just so you won't have any excuses.

season with a runaway win in the 250cc
G.p. class on a Yamaha. Steve also ran
away with the 350cc G.p. class but on
the last lap his gearbox let go and Don
Emde took the win. Don is on his way to
Daytona too.
Triumph mounted Roland Pagan showed that the ten week lay off i n the road
race schedule dido' t phase him at all as
he came out on top in both the G.p. and
Production Open Class on a Trident
three cylinder.
Ralph White, riding a stripped down
version of the Trident, got second in the
Open G.p. while second in the Production class went to Norton mounted Mike
Wozniak.
Lightweight Junior and Senior riders
came out in full force to kick off the new
season and with no less than twelve
A.C.A. road race events scheduled for
the year they are looking forward to all
the gold they can accumulate.
Pat Evans, although one of the youngest road racers around, is a Senior this
year, after being the hottest 100cc rider
last season. And be hasn' t cooled off
either, for he won the 100cc G.P. and
took second on the same bike in the 100cc
Production class. If that wasn't enough,
he came back on a 250cc b1ke for a first
place finish in that event.
The next ACA road race is scheduled
for Willow Springs on the 8th of Febru-
ary.
(Results on page 17)
The road racers push off the grid at Anzac.
Steve McLaughlin rode his Vamaha GP bike
to a 250 class win.
Roland Pap; picks up a win i n the Open Production race ahead of anolher Triumph rider Ralph
While.
