~ ~ ~ Novices .: Prove Real Smash In d Elsinore Action a, Fontana Daytime Debut Nabbed By Rapp T :2: :... u By Lorri Lee ELSINORE, CALIF., Dec. 20, 1969-The 100 Novice class was a real smash at Elsinore, csnr, on Dec. aoe, J. Coleman had to ride a semi In order to ride the main and still won over all. R. Morrison and Bob Hosford, taking second and third, didn 't have to ride a semi. In the 100 Experts Troy McKee, the winner on hi s Kawasaki; opened up a big lead in all three motes , ButScottSivadge, also on a Kawasaki, almost took over the lea d in the last moto yet ended up with the second place honor s . R. Mor r ison tried very hard, but he took third place graciously. In the 250 Expert cla s s everybody was flghting for flrst place. Ray Vanderpool cam e in flrsi on a Bultaco. Steve Jones ca me in second on a Bultaco and Steve Johnson on a Kawasaki came in third. The 350-500 & Open Novice class was visited by Larry Bochkay who came in flrst on his Harley Davidson. On a BSA T. Dell got second over all by winning s econd in all three motes, In the Open Expert class Vic Hannon and Ray Vanderpool were a half lap ' ahead, but Vic fell and Ray took the win. The Sweepstakes was won by the 100 Expert winner Troy McKee . He broke loose to gain a big lead and kelp ahead for the remainder of the race. The Powder Puff class was as exciting as ever. They started out with s ix bikes, and bY the time the last moto came around, they had three left. Debbie Reon on her Hodaka came in first over all an d Karen Bochart on her Hodaka came in se cond . Even with the heavy fog, the r iders found their ·way to Elsinore. Thespectators had the ir camp flres sparkling around the track. Elsinore had its few usual incidents, but as a whole the night ran smoothly. (Results on page 17) The Fontana cowse was I.nlthened and modlfl.d for the first CMC daytime motocross th.... Some UCht action took plac. In the 250 class. Reported by Jerry Mills FONTANA, CAL. Dec. 28, 1969 - Fontana's flrst day race was a real success. A large turn out of both Novices and Experts certainly warranted all the work CMC put into the event. The track had been lengthened and the rougher sections were taken out. However, after a few races in the sandy soil several excellent washboard sections were created. The track was sectioned off by three asphalt areas giving riders a chance to s it co mfortablY for a few precio us moments . OVer all the track was rough and fast . Dust was no problem thanks to seventy mile per hour gusts, that just sort of blew it away. The l25's were in excellent shape, riding fast and furiouslY. The onlY bad fall of the day was taken by a 125 Junior In most eases, thelonlest ~ou'll have to wait for e~ele elothin, at Valerian's is two or three minutes. Jackson when in their fl r s t moto Jackson edged out Wirtzle by a wheel width. Tom Rapp took first place in the Experts over P.J. DeBenedetti who suffered a late start in the second moto. J.
