Jan. 4, 1970- Utl11z1ng a wet and spectacular course In Riverside's Canyon Crest area the Bushmaster's M.C. sponsored a nonsanctioned benefit motocross to raise money for the family of Dave McCord, a young man who passed away early In 1969. The race was well attended and well over $250 was presented to the McCords. This course not only had a water crossing but also a section that followed a foot and a half deep running stream for several yards. The steep bank out of the torrent was littered with drowned and stalled bikes for most of the day. The combined 250 and Open race had a total of 50 riders. The first 30 minute moto was won by Jim Fishback on a Yamaha with Bob RIley on a Husky running second and Mark Blackwell third on a CZ. Jim had trouble on the other two motos and Tom Rapp won the second moto on his Bultaco ahead of CZ mounted Greg Smith. Young Mark Blackwell won the third moto to earn first place overall and another CZ rider, Greg Smith took second for the day. . Dale Walter won all three 100Ccmotos but Larry Deck led the third moto for awh11e. The 125cc class was a fight between Walter Sharp on a Yamaha and Brian King. King won the first heat and Sharp picked up the last two. (Results on page 17) The same holds true for scramblers and motocross riders.
