On lookers chose to observe from atop a dune as the bikes headed in the direction of the parldng/pit area, then In a fury, hung a left onto a dirt road. Dick Rambo (Sachs) was first oft the line, and rather than f1ght the traffic through the corner, he headed for open ground, saying "see ya later"! And, Keston did just that: his 250 SuzuJd proved to be just about two strokes faster, allowing him to take the lead by the end of laP one. They rode first and secood all the way! Three checks awalted the pack. It was up to the individual to get from check point one to check two the way he saw most flt••.and a straight line Is not always the shortest distance when there are countless dunes in the way;Comtngback to home base, check three, via a long dusty trail was often hazardous as vislblllty must have been all of ten feet If you were in hot pursuit of a fellow rider. Seven and a half mUes around each laP gave the men, (no ladles in this line-~) a course of 37-1/2 mUes after five laPs. The pace was very fast, and by 1:30 most people were on their way bome. Noon had been their startlng time. Few bikes made a pit stop. Most of them never needed to take on add1tional gas and the machines themselves held By Bill Smith NILES, CALIF" Nov. 19, 1969- There Is a new race event called a Mlnlb1ke Gymcana at Niles, Calif. being run every Wednesday nigbt.
