It was said, DOted Hodaka rider Harry Taylor was ttrst otf the l1De, but wbo could tell? It all bappeoed so fastl Well known Darrell Tr1ber bad trouble startlnr his Husq and gave it up for a 125c:c: American Eagle. Almost last to start, be rode hard to f1n1sh fourth In his class. It was oo.ly fJfteen minutes unt11 the peek was coming aroUDd for their second check (the ttrst one having been at the balfway point), and out again with a 350 Honda in the lead! Each lap showed a c:hange in positions except for the ttrst overall spot wh1ch was held by the hard eharg:1ng Hooda mounted Jerry Lust. Lap two put Harry Taylor out after he crow-hopped to a hard crash, but was not hurt seriously. "Hot-shoeing it" is not a usual expression for tbls type of race, but one Bultaeo rider, iJII.ve Friestman, who lost his expansion chamber after one lap, was dolnr just that as his right foot was all but smoldng from the intense heat of his Sherpa exhaust, as he f1n1shed for a lirst in the 200cc class. YOWlg Doug Graves was seen rt1IlIl1ng, pushing his bike the last one hundred yards to the f1n1sh, as a soft-hearted offlclal met him part way to give him his last check and catch him belore he fell from exhaustion. He trophied second in his class and well did he deserve it! The course was rough but Interestlnr. Little preparation bad gone into the settlnr UP of checkers, but with only four people, (two of them volunteers), two marldng pens and a bit of blue crayon on hand, they did a great job. We thank Hill & Gully lor tb8 M0tocross that wasn't. (Results on page 20) Deer Seasol Shoots DOWI Atteldalce At Idaho Scra.ltle's It was Jerry Lust on his trust;y 350 Honda. He had come out for a full day of racing and was golnr to do just that. -Being the only open bike to sign-up, he was allowed to start with the 250 class, simply for the sport of it. This gave the other riders added drive. TIle cannon was heard and Lust was tirst oft the llne. Electric start? MIke Riddle must have been seeing red! TIle expressions on the laces of tbls pack of men were beyond description. Though the 250' s ran the same distance as the other classes, the antle!patlon of the spectators made It seem as though the light would never end. TIle bikes moved fast. Riders went down and riders got UP; then speeds increased. Riddle was desirous of being tlrstandhe wasl It was a good run tor him and Lust was right behind him. (Needless to say, Jerry Lust got the First place trophy in the Open class.) Doug Riddle came in second, Ed BarUett thlrd and John Frary tourth. , By 3: 00 0' clock all trophies had been handed out and everyone was on their way home. It was quiet. Back in the pastures the cattle and horses were grazing, seemingly content to step over the handlebars, tenders and bits 'n' pieces lett by those who's names were not on the victory list. Appropriate enough are the words - "Better luck next time." By Jeanne Friestman KENDRICK, IDAHO, Oct. 12, 1969 - In previous years the Kendrick Trall Riders had had as many as one hundred and fJft;y or more riders sIgn- up, but due to tbe opening of deer season, only tblrt;yeight part!eipants had an equal amount of spectators were on hand tor the Oct. 12 Hare Scrambles. TIlere was a delay in the start of practice, as the man ~o owned the land hadn't quite removed all his Uvestock from the pastures. Very Plcturesquel TIle Europeans would have been right at home. The temperature was in the high tortles and the added breeze made it quite crisp. The l00cc Class started and t1n1shed with iJII.ve Nelson in the lead, tlghtlng a flat front tire and Martin Riddle and LeRoy Sproul f1n1shlng second and thlrd In that order. During the 170cc Class run, Mike Sumpter suttered with a broken collar bone as he waited patiently tor the race to end and the tirst-ald truck to arrive. Jerry Lust was the victor and Ed Bartlett was second. Third and lourth were held by Jay Lust and Jerry Lang. TIle 25ecc Class was a most interestIng one as all'the riders SPOtted an outsider in the Una-UP. The sounds of protest could be heard throughout the land.
