Winners were determined points earned in three beats. First beat grid was a reverse of the ftnisb of the second beat. 250 Amateur,. Expert,and Open were all roo together. Bultaco rider Tom Hallford of Pboenix was the front-runningest lad of the day, wtnntng all beats by as mucb as 20 seconds, as he laPped consistently at 57 seconds. At the back of the grid to start the second beat hts bike kooked out. Time out. Back to the pit. Then away Tommy went througb the whole pack in one lap. Pat McGuire on a Husky got second place in the first and second beats. Pat, the acrobat,fougbtthe bike all the way and came off the jump crossed uP worse than Roger DeCoster. He met hts nemesis in the last beat wben the "01' Sarge", Dale Sturdevant, rode Ed Parson's OTI. It was nip and tuck for !bree laPs as the 01' Sarge tried overtaking 00 the outside time and again. Ftnally, at the nntsb ltne, comtngaround the outside just ODe more time, be niPPed into second place by the thickDess of the front tire. It was an exciting climax.
