Yes, If the American Motocross Team continues to progress as It bas tbis past six months. "Our plan tor 1970 is to tleld a team 01 tour riders on tour ditterent brands of motorcycles," says Team President Murville (Kim) Kimball. The tour-man team would be backed with tour mechanIcs and a team manager, perhaps also a team reporter, and w1ll travel the European championship series to the tlrst serious attempt to win the title tor America. Nobody expects our men to be anything more tban also-rans the tlrst year. By 1971 or 1972, however, they should be capable of cballeng1ng the European suPremacy In the demanding motocross sport. Improvements w1ll include a new test laboratory with a highspeed test wheel that will permit dynamic testing of cycle tires at speeds uP to 100 mUes per hour • Work w1ll begin immediately, with completion expected in early 1970. This newspaper recently ran a oneline offer, buried In an editorial, offering to giv£' $5 to the Team tor each new subscription received before Sept. 1 marked "Give to American Motocross Team." We were curious to know wha.t effect such subtle advertising lor the Team would cause. We are proud to report that $180 was paid to the Team tor 36 new subscriptions. Each of the five riders got checks trom this source lor $20, and the American Motocross Team was paid $80 tor the patches each subscrlber receiVed. Sending a team to compete next year will cost approximately $50,000 to do It right. AM- XT plans to raise the money through donations, sponsorships, sale of posters and promoting a serles of motocrosses around the country.
