.I's Lacher Again AI Ascol By Dewitt Thuett With the Ascot National just around the corner Mel Lacher has established himself as the man to beat. Mel and his Harley chalked UP three more wins last Friday. Lacher and Shorty Seabourne continue to wage a two man battle for the season point title v,1th Lacher doing It the easy way and Shorty the hard, hard way. Pint sized Seabourne did another of his "ThIngs" In the heat race, failing off In front of the rest of the field and going down with all arms and legs waVIng. He was the last man to line up for the Semi-MaIn. He came Crom last to win the event and then take the starting line with his two teammates, Ralph WhIte and Tom ,Rockwood sitting alongside. Lacher, with another near perfect start was out front. Six riders went at It for second with Shorty somewhere In the six pack. Both Shorty and WhIte really got to hauling late In the race. GOing and coming In the last turn the two were side by side. WhIte'S rear wheel did a little wiggle and Shorty took second place by two feet over Ralph. Many out of state riders were on hand last Friday but none were as Impressive as Mike Anderson from Freeport, m. Mike a first year Expert, took to the high groove In the heat race and beat the locals hands down. Iowa also sel'lt out Lynn Holloway. He ranks as the second smallest rider stretching a shade above Shorty Seabourne. Holloway JumPed on Freddie Edwards spare Yamaha and rode In for a 5th In the Novice fInal. Holloway was the top Novice in the Minn.-Iowa area this year. He will also be back this week. Don Emde did a slow slide and crash In his heat race to eliminate himself from the 250Cc fInal. Hateley, having one of his fastest and best nights on the Suzuki, stormed the heat race and final for his first main event win since the first of August. Edwards again did the chasing to finish In second.
