Palo Alto M.C. Hosts FreDlont ScraDlbles The 250 Expert main was taster than usual, with the boys r8lll1y Ill1.x1nc tb1ngs UP. Stan (the man) Anderson took over the lead on the start, followed by Bruce Teixeira, John Genna! and the others. Teixeira, hoWever, quickly relieved Stan of hIs position in the lead. Then things really started to happen - namely in the form of one Allen Kenyon. Kenyon who had been hack third from last, started to turn it on in one of hIs better performances of th1s year. Allen charged past rider after rider, finally moving uP to within strikIng range of a trophy position. Allen moved uP to third when he got around Jim Foley and finally John Genna!. Kenyon was charging hard on Anderson when the checkered flag was thrown, ending hIs chances of moving up yet another posItion. The 500 Expert event was once again taken by the district's #18 rider Clitt Aksland on hIs Bultaco. CM was out of reach by the halt way sign, leaving behInd a furious battle for the second position. Rich Jacobs in second was trying hard to hold Bruce Teixeira ott, who was in third, but Bruce in turn was trying to keep Jerry Chadin from getting by. Chadin got a little better drive out of the turn and managed to pass Teixeira down the straight. Jerry also passed Jacobs, making the order of Aksland, Chadin, Jacobs and Teixeira. Teixeira finally settled the issue of who was going to get that last trophy when he took over third from Jacobs. ---------.g'j Hodaka u Greeves Montesa ..otorcycles Kawasaki Westminster Sport Cycle Guy R. Participation in Sunday's race was good with a total of 253 entries signing up to do their skinning under the rather warm sun and clear skies. The main events started ott with 100cc rockets. Novice rider, Pat Brown, (Hod.) picked up another win on hIs trusty bike, with Walt Nunes and Pat Hennen in second and third, respectively. John Agnone picked up the second first place trophy of hIs racing career, when he won the 200 Novice Main. Agnone really stormed off the line and into the lead in the big race to put hIs Bultaco out of reach of everybody. Bultacos also took the second, third, and fourth place honors, for a clean sweep. The 200 Amateurs were really on the gas, headed up by leader Larry Powers. Larry took the event after hIs competition in the form of one Ivan Shigemasa unloaded wh1le making hIs bid on Powers. The Twenty-nine entries in the 125cc class thinned down to seven t1nlshers in the third heat with Austin's Bill Kasson (Pentoo) emerging the low-poot man with two seconds and a first for five points. The two second p4ce t1nlsbes were behind Gary BIgley (Yamaha), who, everthe-iess, t1nlsbed fourth orerall with twenty-two points due to a disasterous twentieth place t1n1sh in the first heat. The final event of the day saw Allen Kenyon picking up another of hIs many straight wins in the 650 Expert class. Kenyon bombed around Expert Titten Mullenax and stretched out hIs lead. (Results on page 20) Second overall with a second, a third and a fourth was George Parks' brother Doug Parks (Yamaha), and third was Joe DiLorenzo (Yamaha) of Houston. WIth nary a backward glance, Jack O'Leary (Yamaha) fin1shed 1-1-1 totake the 250cc class. Second, with three seconds, was Ed Terr'ell (Husqvarna), and third, with three thirdS, was Jack Greenstreet (Yamaha). In the Open class,-Gary Jones prOYed indomitable on hIs 441cc BSA, but hIs father, J.D. Jones, on a s1mllarmach1ne called It a day late in the first ten-lap heat. Though he had been running well, Jones, Sr. decided that motocross is a young man's game. With six points, Robert Graham (36Occ Maico) was second, and Gary Parker (405cc American Eagle) was third with ten points. The Austin Motocross Park course is long and arduous, and the ten-lap heats took their toll of riders and machinery, but the opening was well-received by riders and spectatllrs alike. ThIs was the last meet to be run under the summer sun, and the next event will be the twenty-eighth of September, well into the hurricane season and cool weather.
