The program is a series of 24 fourlap races, all but the three main events from scratch and the feature events with handica ps of up to 40 yards. There will be four riders in each race. In these sprints the riders throw their bikes into one continu al drift, leavning their machine s over but "standin g up" on them to get more weight on the tires and better traction in the dirt. Since adapting to the style, local stars have shattere d course records set by the visiting foreign ers. Our (C BM) flyers for Carson City even plug the P.lne Cone event to those riders who don't care to make the 450 mUe ride to the Nevada city. Eble expects many riders to sign in on the Pine Cone Rally to get their activity points and then ride on to Carson just for the fun of riding instead of par king over the long holiday . Riders attendin g Carson City will also receive a very nice metal tour pin simUar to the AMA's 1969 Tour award. _ I CHICO. CAL., Aug. 9, 1969 - Cyclela nd Speedway, Chico, showed its wealth of riders to the capacity crowd with the result being very enjoyab le to everyon e. Each week new riders show UP, in fact Lee Stumpenbaus of N. Hollywo od, one of the top S. Calif. riders was in attendan ce to take on the locals in the 250cc class. Lee Is one of the number one riders at Trojan Speedway in South Gate, Calif. I timed the scratch and the handica p mains to get compar ison times for the three classes . The 100cc scratch main was put away on Charles McGins ey on a Suzukl in 2 minutes and 40 seconds; the 200cc scratch main was won by Joe Allen on an Kawasa ki in 2 minutes and 38 seconds; and the 250cc scratch main by Jim Crensba w on a Yamaha in 2 minutes and 38 seconds , The 100's were only some 2 seconds slower than the 200' s and 250·s. The handica p main in the 100cc class was put away by Mr. Speed, John Grant on a Moto Beta in 2 minutes and 18 seconds . Jerry Spain on a Ossa putawa y the 200cc class in a time of 2 minutes and 15 seconds , and Paul Minor, Jr. on a Bultaco really flew in the 250cc class winning in 2 minutes and 8 seconds . It did appear that the 250' s average about 1-2 seconds faster a lap than the 100's. We also had an exhibiti on by various riders on two Speedway bikes. The bikes - were both some 35 years of age, howeve r appeare d to be in mint conditio n. The extra horsepo wer and ease of hancU1ng really made It easy for the riders to cruise the track with nice sweepin g slides around the corners .
