She voted to go vtslt In san Fernando but I couldn't see speDd1Dg such a beauUful day with all the 1d1ots that you t1Dd on a Cal1fornia Freeway so we comprom1sed. We would go III highway 395 and have IllDCb at Elslnore wbere the Pac1flc Coasters were just co-Inc1deDtally havlng a tour. She wasn't too receptive to this idea until 1 pointed out that she could take the latest snapshots of our grandchildren and sbow them to all 01 ber cyc11Dg friends that she bad not seen since the Hemet Tour a couple 01 - a ago. That, and the promtse that _ wouldn't stay long, and return bome by way of the san Juan Capistrano Mlsslon won her over. At 10: 25 a.m. we beaded Up 395 for the first time tbls year left our leather jackets home even our 11gbt weight nylon wlndbre&xerS almost seemed too much. Without burrylng we pulled Into the usually sleepy little resort town of Elsinore at 11:50. Tbts day however, the motorcycle bad taken over and In some parts of town bikes would be parked side by side tor a solid block. Our odometer sbowed 70 mUes as we squeezed our BMW In between a Harley and a Kawasaki at the curb In front of an air conditioned cate. Every table and stool was occUPied by cyc11sts and we spent a good bour here In air conditioned comfort while we soc1allzed with a lot of our "out of town" motorcycllng friends. W1l11e, the Clown (out of make-UP) sat down on the stool next to ours, had a quick iced tea and told us about bts new costume, and then scampered aTillY as parade time neared. From our cool stoots, we were amused to watch the riders and passengers, who were getting ready to go to the parade, as tIIey climbed aboard tbe1r bikes and came Into contact with their sun-heated saddles. Some of the girls bounced clear UP on the Boot Box as their tender posteriors touched the "stove bot" seats. It was amusing to watch, but not so much so wben It came our turn to leave and go throught the same antics. The parade was a good one with flags fJylng and banners waving and we followed it and watched the Ace of Clubs and Victor McLaugblen's Drill and stunt Teams go through their stuff. T1Ie beat was gettlng to the unbearable point as we followed our friend ,Joe Lloyd out of town toward Capistrano. We c11mbed rapidJy as we ascended into tile Santa Ana MOlmtalns. The curves were fun as we swung our bike from side to side trying to match Joe's big Harley. We stopped for a few minutes at the "Summit", and the v1ewwas magnificent from the lotl;y heights.
