June 7 - Flying Bart Markel beaded the pack of expert racers and ended UP beading the AMA National Points race as the flag came down OIl the 3rd running of the Louisville Downs National Championship. It was Bart's third Louisville win, and 26th National Championship Victory, only one ott the all-time record. The Kentucky Derby halt-mile track was deep and holey, but just right for the thumping Harley-Davidson KR "twingle" of Markel. He was followed all the way by Dick Mann, whose BSA was working perfectly. Such was not the case with Amateur champion Dave Aldana'S BSA however.
