Debbie Beats T6e
Bo,s At Mar,s,ille
By Dale McKinnon
MARYSVILLE, cal., May 17, 1969 _
Forced to ride with the men because no
other women showed UP, Debbie Jackllne
won the lOOCc semi and then passed
Jerry Willis to take the Main event.
Debbie, an expert, has a little more
experience and a faster bike than the
novices 'she was competing against in
the Marysville TT.
The 200 class seems to be getting
rougber all the time. All the knocking
and spills used to be in the 250 class but
the 200' s seems to have taken over in
that category. One rider went down at
the start and a few fell during the race.
The most spectacular spill occurred on
the straightaway when two riders tangled
and crashed.
Robert Kiefer and Randall Dunn diced
for the lead with Kiefer making It to the
finish first.
Ronnie Gonella took the lead in the
250 Amateur Main and went on to win.
There was a tight go for second, third,
and fourth spots until the ast turn. All
three contestants went down.
The 250 Expert main saw Joe Henry
take the lead in the second lap and go on
for the win. Cliff Acksland and Stan Anderson fought a humdinger for second
with Acksland ahead at the wire. Merril
Beidiemann came close but couldn't put
it all together.
Montie Gibson took a nasty spi11last
week and the 350 class had to get along
without him. Jack Pine and PaulDooaldSOIl were peg-to-peg until Donaldson
pulled away for the win. Donaldson also
won ,the wheelle contest to put frosting
on the cake.
Cliff Acksland took the 650 Expert
event and Bill Nurbank won the Amateur
big bike bash. A hairy start had the fans
on their feet as the machines got off to
a perfect start and charged into the first
turn together. Burbank grabbed the lead
and rode in flawless style all the way.
Dennis Dickerson bumped his way to
second and beld on to that spot.

Gus Lauer Highsides At (ycleland
bounced at least five times, and was able
to walk off the track.
Winner of the event was Rich Chambers, and RandY Scott was second. Chambers and Scott are both Chico residents
and Yamaha riders. Riding from the 45yard line at Cycle-Land, Mike Corcoran
of Rio Linda, pushed his Yamaha into
third spot.
Barry Hiatt, Chico, riding a Honda,
took first place in the 250Cc beginners
main while Corcoran won the 250cc
scratch race.
The lOOCc class beginners race was
won by Mike Rooney of Sacramento, who
was almost one-half a lap abead of the
pack when his Mota-Beta crossed the.
finish line.
Del Silva, winner of the previous
SaturdaY's beginners main, won the 100
cc scratch main while Charlie McGimsy, who won the handicapped main in the
100 class last week, managed only a second place this week.

CHICO, CAL., May 17, 1969- 56 riders
participated Saturday, May 17, in lbe
flattrack races at Cycle-Land Speedway.
Beginners races in the 200cc class
had the same winner as the 200cchandicapped event. In that class Eddie Brown
of Niles, riding a Bultaco, won the brass
and a kiss from troPhy girl Regina
Richards of Oroville.
Second spot in the 200cc class went to
Jim Hubbard of Cbico, Yamaha rider,
while third place was the prize of Dick
Turner, Red Blurt Honda rider.
In the same class' scratch race, where
riders with the biggest track handicaps
go five laps from an even start, winner
was Mike Rockwell of Oroville, riding a
Yamaha.
The evening's biggest excitement was
during the 250Cc handicap main, the last
of the 37 events, when Gus Lauer of
Grass Valley bit a hole while taking the
pack on the outside and went over the
high side. He rolled into a ball which
Canadian road racine fans saw two Honda Fours In the Harewood Acres races at Ontario last
