Riverside Road Races RIVERSIDE, CAUF. May 4 - With two road race programs running simultaneously lD the same area, it was heartening to note that enough partlclp&nts attended to make good shows at both courses. Ninety-two cbose Riverside, while 91 made it to Orange County lnternation&!. Spectator turnout was another story. It seems that Americans just aren't hipped on road racing, despite the efforts of all the publications to make it so. The crowd that didn't show uP at Riverside missed seeing Tony Murphy zas> the 50cc Grand Prix on his Suzuki tiddler, while Don Wicks on a Vampire took the Class Two in that size. Vampire importer Sid Chambers ran 4th, giving his customers a chance to take home some gold for a change. Chambers' Tarbos and Moodlals also dominated the 500cc Production race. !;iig excitement occurred in the 350cc GP when Don Vesco, riding his 250 Y'lIIlaba TD-2 because his 350 wouldn't spark, gave chase to Tony MurPhy's Bridgestone. Even with 4th gear out, Vesco caught and passed the bigger machine and barely held ott MurPhy for the win. The 250cc was Buddy Parriott\s, followed by Vesco and Eugne Brown, who is sponsored by Jack Leigh's United Motorcycle Sales of Portland, Ore. It was a battle all the way. Vesco had to work for it, after getting a bad start. Roland Pagan on the big Triumph dueled Dave Damron's Kawasalcl Three in two races, Pagan taking the overall win both times, with the triple 'Saki hau11ng home the 500cc gold. It was the last ACA race on the old Riverside course. U's being revised for the future.
