It comes equipped U with the Enduro VDO speedometer, as well as lights and battery for use on the road. "All you have to do is crack on the '-l By Tom Dilling power." The oversquare, two-stroke single cylinder engine turns out a claimed 30 brake horsepower at 6,000 rpm. Bore and stroke are 78.75x72mm, and the compression ratio is 8.7: 1. The new gearbox has all-time low ratios (17: 1 in first, 10.4: 1 in second, 7.9: 1 in third and 6.52: 1 in fourth) that enable the rider to maintain high top speeds in all gears. OVer-all weight of the new HuskY 360Cc Sportsman is 252 poundS, only five pounds more than the 250T. The new Husqvarna rear brake, that was successfully tested in European Grand Prix Motocross competition in 1968, Is a full 160mm in diameter. The new rear hub is aluminum and has a spindle that can be pulled without touching the brake or chain, making for fast repairs and flexiblllty. The motocross type frame of welded chrome molybdenum steel is an inch shorter than that of the 250T Sportsman, and a larger, 21-lnch front wheel works with the shorter frame to give the 360 Sportsman greater maneuverablllty. Husqvarna experience and success in international motocross competition is also reflected in the five-disc motocross type clutch, the air filter, saddle and foot pegs. This event began nine years ago and has run every year since its inception. In 1964 the race was a National Championship race filmed by CBS Sports Spectacular Show. In May, 1968 the Salt Lake Motorcycle Club received the sanction for the National Championship races again to be held in Juab County. This exceptional course is aPproximately 100 miles long and covers all types of terrain. Selected initially because of the popularity of the Shifting White Sand dunes, the course now runs through the pure sand, mountains and sagebrush. Colored ribbons, tied at eye level, mark the course the cyclist follows at a speed of 40 to 70 miles per hour. The Juab County Sheriff's Posse helPs the club insure continuity and order at the meet and provides first aid, if needed. Every year, same place, almost same time, see you there? The Trinity Trailster's held their third race in a series of four with contenders going for regular trophies plus large overall brass for the top four of the series. This one was a Hare Scrambles on a beautiful 2-1/2 mile course near Burnt Ranch. The pit area was in a pretty little draw with a creek running down one side. Playing In the creek and throwing rocks at the squirrels kept the kids busy all day. The creek will never be the same and the squirrels are now combat vets. It was a perfect day for the mud loving rider, all that neat mud and the sun shining. The classes were sent off at one minute intervals - the Open class, very fast, sedate and businesslike. The 250' s, serious and concentrating, then the 100's, tearing around treeing all the spectators, running over each other and finally leaving to get down to the business of the day, racing. At the end of the first lap TriumPh mounted Dave Reynolds came into the check first followed by Lou Brero by about 30 seconds. Gordon Kuhnle was first 250 on his Bultaco. Series leader Brian Lee was among the leaders on his Yamaha. As things settled down a little and the picture became a little clearer we could see Brero was staying within striking distance of Reynolds but about half-way through Dave seemed to tire and Lou took over on the hill at the starting line. Big Ed Nieisen then moved in behind Brero and kept it there for the rest of the race. Red Ed was a laP down but they were having fun and that's the name of the game ain't it? our desert convert, Laymen Gattis was running a good solid race until he broke off about afoot of his left handlebar and gave it uP for the day. Meanwhile back to the 250 class. Things boiled down to Brian Lee and Ben Cringle, as It always seems to when these guys get on the same course. Ben, all decked out in the Far West M.C, "Idiot boot", picked uP over a full minute on Lee and at the flag was on his rear fender for a second place. The 250 B class had Dick Maxwell on a Greeves in first. Dick rode a smooth steady race all afternoon staying ahead of another smooth style rider, Jay Stradley. Jay had his Husqvarna in second with BSA rider Jim Creech third. A young man named James Arnold entered his 120 Kawasaki in the 250 class and rode one fast race. He had that little blue machine uP leading a lot of the 250' s until he had some kind of trouble late in the race. He didn't finish in the money but he put uP a toughfightand had a few of the 250 drivers bugged most of the race. The 100 class went to Harry Johnson on a Honda ahead of Hodaka mounted Chuck Gay. Randy Fields again won the Junior class with Brack Zollo second.
