I,.' Sprague, Spiker Win As Hosaka Sits Sprague's masterful riding thrilled the fans. He easily captured the Open Expert event on his big blue Triumph. In each of the three motos he jubilantly pulled his bike up into a wheelie in the last lap, r ight past the checker . Vic Hannan (Kawa saki) pressed him on several occasions but could never overlake him. Pual Bronson, pil oti ng a deep throated VeIocette did a masterful job of capturing third• • Local Hero Wins Riding a DT-l Yamaha out of Yuma, Roy Spiker domina ted the 250 Expert fracas. Spiker has one of the mos t thrilling riding styles to be s een here in a long while. Two out of the three motos went to hi m. In the fir st however, local favorit e, 16- year- old W ne Clarke, shaded Spikay er in the home s tretch but he broke a chai n. He was l ucky to be abl e to coast a cross the finish lin e in third position . Kawasaki rider Clarke was second in points earned . The old master and No. 1 plate hold er in Dist. 38, 100cc Expert Jim McGuire jockeyed his F & M Ree d Induction Hoda ka to lake top honors. J on Grace, also Hodaka-mounted edged an other Hodaka pil ot, J im Harm on out of second place in a hot duel. Novic e Kawasaki r ide r, La r r y Collie captured the 200cc combined show. La r ry CoIli e al so rode his Kawasaki to a win in the combined 500- Open Novice bash, hotly pres sed by Bill Bartles on H- D Sprint. Tim Leque, 16, won a hardearned third position . There was the usual · post- r ace beer bust. However, the wooden keg of beer ordered for the Side Hack Associa tion af ter their kind letter in Cycle News ' " Voices of the Wes t" was neve r lapped. Registra tions were hel d open for the m all day but the Side Hack boys nev er s howed . TIJUANA, Mexico , Oct . 20- John Sprague of Long Beach, Cal . and Ray Spike r of Yuma , Arizona won their class es at the A utodrorno de Tijuana, as the Tijuana Motorcycle Associa tion pr esented another of its s pectacular TT progra ms . Sprague and the local border favorite, Wayne Hosaka, were denied the chan ce to race each other in the Open Expert. The fan s have been looking forward to it. But on F r iday prior to the race Hosaka hit a dog on his sireet bike , injuring his leg so hadly he couldn't s it his mount.
