The completely new course was avaHab1e to riders at last weekend's event there, and will be available again with another event on the 27th before the Europeans come at the end oI November . Sunday's ac tivities started with a comb1ned 125cc Jr. and Sr. class with Bultaco ace scrambles r ider Steve Scott taking the overall win for the Exper ts . J. West chalked up another win the Jr. class and it looks like he will be moved up to Sr. very s oon. Darnell Does 'Em In The likes of Russ Darnell, Tim Har t, and Lonny Pe ter son staged their usual battle In the 250cc Sr . division with super -smooth Russ Darnell and his Husky pulling In the fir st pla ce gold. Lonny followed with a second and Tim Hart a third, both on CZ 250' s, B111 Hager and Montesa team ed up to do the troops In the 500cc Jr. class, with JOM Hate1ey (oI speedway fame) coming In for second. Newly-made Expert Jim Wilson took his Greeves to top brass In the 500cc Sr. event followed by har d r iding M. Holliday (Malco) and Larry Demas (also out for the fir st time as an Expert) taki ng a well ridden third. (Yaa -hoo). The next event at Carlsbad will be the last chance you' ll have to practice on the new course before the International. Make it for the weekend as there Is camp ing overnight In the pits. The management oI the Raceway would like It known that there are specific rules to be followed as far as r iding in and around the pits , and it would be appreciated If they be followed to the letter. A copy oI the rules will be given to each person or vehicle as they enter the Raceway . (Results on page 16) Bul taco mounted Larry Dema s found the new Carlsbad , Raceway track to his IIklne and turned In his best ri de to date. Larry was ju st made a Sr. rider at this event and turned In a &Ood third I n the 500cc Sr. c lass. He cla ims he'll frame the prize moneyhe receiv ed! Aboye: John Hately showed up for the last Carlsbad event and prayed he could handle a mota-cross course almost as well as he handles the speedway tracks as he copped a well earned second place I n the 500cc Jr. event. John rode a new CZ and It seems he prefers that brand as his speedway fueler Is made by the same company In Czechosloyakia . At Saddleback, the cour se Is located in a ravine and consists of numerous downhill oIf-camber turns, rough straights, several downhills, and a sandy, narrow, steep-walled gorge. Mike Runyard (MB) took the fir s t 10the 100cc' s because among other th10gs he could stand up longer than anybody else. Steve Goldberg (Hod.) was second with Don ' Emler (Suz.) third. 250cc Junior group was very large and ran as two different gr oups for motos and a final heat oI the top finis her s In each group. 10 the f1na1 heat second plac e overall r ider Larry Shoemaker (Bul.) could have and almos t did s top for a beer on the home s tretch oI the last lap. He was beaten overall by Husky rider B111 Geor ge with B. P r es ho (Yam.) third.
