Th1s number represents 0ft1" twice the number of riders that attended the club's last event In July ofth1s year. Spectators W:alJlng close to 500 Patronized this last October event and received some of the finest viewing of America's top mota-cross riders In action. Saturday's activities started ott with tbe 12 5cc Jr. class maklng a mad dash for the first corner located at the end <1 tbe uphill start. All thirty r iders got tbrough without a mishap and the SS Hodaka tuned by Tom Turner and ridden by Bill Pettigrew snatched the early lead with Bul.taco mounted Bob Vacca In hot pursuit. Pettigrew was able to hold the lead over Vacca to win the f1rst moto. The second moto was a photocopy of the tlrst. The th1rd and final moto saw Bob Vacca snatch the lead at the first turn and held it to the end with "Crash" Pettigrew taldng a second and Jeff Creager pulling his super-fast Guazonnl to a well earned third. Next event was the 125 Sr. class and it turned out to be a real heartbreaker for Penton rider Gary Balle)'. Balley had snatched a great win In the nrst mote only to have engine failure wblle leading the second. Bul.taco ace .nm Le Blanc took over where Balley lett ott and coPPed Gary Conrad (Hu..) With the feel of the crisp clean a1r (highly unusual for the southlanders) and the l:I'eat scenery In and around the track tt made for a great weekend <1 raclng. The High Sierra M .C. is to be congratulated for putting on another great eYeIlt and we can hardly wal t for the .. spring thaw" for another . jaunt to the races at Mammoth Lakes, Callforn1a. Rumor is that there might be a chance <1 an international Mota-Cross In that area In tile future- GREAT. Jim WUson is now a Junior rider and be grabbed ott both the 250 Jr. class and the 500 Jr. class without allY problems what-so-ever. Jim wlll be moved up to Senior very soon and I predict that quite a few of the Sr. riders are in for a surprise. Jim is also the Southern Callforn1a Trials Champion and it certainly shows In his style of mota-cross rld1ng. SUDday's 250 Sr. race was one <1 the finest events <1 the weekend, and the Husqvarna troops <1 Gary Conrad and Russ Darnell put on a great sbow.
