Often you wi ll be sure yo ur cycle has taken a wrong turn as you seem to com e fac e to fa ce with a cl1ff, but the r oad always seems to twist I ts way out. The restored silver mln1ng boom town, a near replica of Its early days, Is adj acent to an ultra-modern campsite. The treacherous trails surrounding It, unchanged by time and freeway trends, are being enjoyed by today's riders of sleek, powerful motorcycles. SACRAMENTO, Cal., Sept . 13 - This Is what happens when FortSutter and Sacramento Tracker s M.C.'s team UP for the last race of season under the lights at Sacramento National Raceway . Even the l ulls were fun . Especially when th e season trophi es were awarded. First off, Girl's HIgh Point Trophy went to Debbie JackUne (Kawasakl)from Fair oaks, Calif. Giving Debbie her trophy was tittle Billy McKee. Second on the program was the 100cc class . Receiving trophies were Terry Henry (Mote-Beta) f r om Sacramento In the Novice Class, John Grant ( Mote-Beta) from Sacramento In the A ma teur Class, and Ken Roberts ( SuzuJd) f rom Modesto In the Expert Class . Trophy gir ls were Barbara Willis, Carol Rondane and Lenette Gutierrez. Before the rider s got their trophies they had to pr esent the gi r ls wi th corsages, mad e UP of club c olor s . Sheer pandemonium of laughter broke loose. Torsten Hallman, current world champion, will of course lead the exciting Husqvarna team. And factory rider Bryan Wade will r epr es ent Greeves . Montesa will field an all-Amer ican team conslstlng of Ron Nelson and the Hawaiian flash John DeSoto, and BSA Is said to be br inging a team of factory r i ders over for th e series. Hardy prospectors would have been elated at the chance to conquer the surr ounding trails of the Calico mountains described by an 1881 prospector as " purty as a gal's pettysktrt" because of their vivid hues. Now came trophies for the 250cc class, starting with Gale Glbb (Bultaco) from Vallejo In the Novice class, Jim Rodaer ( Bulta co) from Sacramento I n the Amateur class, and Mike Corcoran ( Bultac o) from North Highlands In the Exper t class. Kawasaki watx:hes, donated by Vickers Honda, were awarded to HIgh Poi nt Novice winners. Then came the OVerall Trophy, which went to Mike Ellis. Mike was also awarded the trophy for being High Point OVerall f or 1968. There was also the Special A ward, which was given by F ort Sutter and Sac r am ento Trackers. The ma1nl ntent of this award was to say " thank you" to the A nnouncer of Th e Year, Steve R ooney . l n order to keep Steve from knowing he was receiving the award, hi s name was put In an envelope and was not given to him until the last minute.
