All were able to restart but Carroll Skov, l02r, was taken to lh~ hospital for examination at the conclusion of the program complaining of leg pains. On the restart ISOz Gil Robbins slid wide on turn two and went down only to get up and do It again the following time, but this time he took a 50 mph trip through the pit area and into now-spectating 128r Don Dudek. Don was shaken up for awhile but seemed all right later while attending festivities on the first night of the Fair. Finally lasting the ten laps was Terry Donaher abead of Steve Bast and Carroll Skov, who put on a good show despite his InJuries. The combination of Keith Mashburn'S lding, Dennis Maban's tuning, and Yamaha's endurance again proved to be the winning one In the 10-lap A Main. The surface was decomposed gr ani te and desert, which has never worked yet. Practice was cut short due to the late sign-up and the r econditioning of the track surface. Promoter J .C. AgaJanian wheel pac ked in his Cadi llac while Don Basile dragged the track with the tractor. Three of the fi rst four r iders out for pr actice unloaded, tncluding the eventual winner Keith Mas hburn. They soon got the hang of It, however, an d as the evening progressed they mastered the s lipper y, bumpy course . The grandstands wer e filled with fai rgoer s who got their share of thrills and sp ills that co uld only be pr ovided by a motorcycle shor t track . The second heat saw Amateur Alex Chlnowski (35x) finding that the high groove proved to be the short way home as Alex's Honda got a bit out of the final turn that settled the win. The third heat went to another Amateur, Triumph-mounted Norm Elledge (S5r) who was followed across the line by Novice Tom Sher ma n (22Sr). The rough track continued to take Its toll of riders and machines. The fini sh of the third heat sa w three out of the original Amateurs out of contention due to accidents. As racing progressed the track surface seemed to Impr ove as the four th and final heat was the fastest heat race of the evening. SPEED UP AT GOODYEAR AKRON, Ohio, Aug. 15- A newdistrlbution program to Increase and accelerate availability of motorcycle racing tires has been announced by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company to meet a steadily increasing demand. "Continuing successes of Goodyear's Blue Streak motorcycle racing tires have produced a growing demand for these specialized tires from competition drivers throughout the country," said Joseph W. Haney, manager of cycle tire sales for Goodyear. "The sport of motorcycle racing, which has long been popular In the United States, Is growing rapidly along with the Increasing Interest In motorcycle riding for pleasure," Haney said. "We are pleased that we are now able to make racing tires more Immediately available to competition r iders throughout the country." Under the new pr ogram , according to Haney , Goodyear dealers and service stores handling the company's line of non-competition motor cycle tires will now be able to otter Blue Streak motorcycle racing tires, which will be available through Goodyear's network of regular motorcycle tire distributors. Until now, Goodyear'S motorcycle racing tires had been available only through the company's six regional racing tire distributors. Haney said the racing tires are designed and Intended only for racing purposes and are not suitable for street operation. He added that Goodyear's special lan d speed record tires for motorcycles will continue to be available only on special order through the Goodyear Rac ing D1vislon In Akron. This season Goodyear Blue Streak motorcycle racing tires were on every winning cycl e In AJl.lA pave track National Cham pionship races, matching Goodyear's 1967 performance.
