was Bart's 24th National Championship
win, three short of the alI-time r ecord
set by Joe L eonard, and Joe was there
to see It happen.
Nixon held firm to second ahead of
Palmg r en, and Haaby took fourth ahead
of Lawwlll, Rome ro, Raybor n, Reiman,
Ni X, Coppage, Barda and Whi te. Time fo r
th e 14 miles was 13 minutes, 47.2 1
s econds.
By virtue of his runnerup finish, Ni xon
regained the point l ead f r om Rayborn
(It's now 527 to 505) , and Markel moved
Into third ahead of Nix, 500 to 456.
Haaby remains f ifth overall. All concerned will be back i n action Sunday,

AMA Nallonal Championship race at
Sallnas, Calif., this one 11 miles In
