Lost MODey B)' Roberl O. Fee LOTS Of BIZ AT AUGUST IlIC MEETING No lack of a quorum slowed down the August 5th meeting of the Southern California Road Riders Committee when Cba1rman J,M , Jones gavelled it to order at 8:25 p.m, The room was fairly f1lled and the business proceeded at a br i sk rate. Apology The Cba1rma:1 101 tlated pr oceedings by apologizing to the SUver Eagles M .C , for the Cba1r's failure to recognize them at the July 15 special meeting. Jones announced that the Cba1r would no longer tolerate individual dtscusstons while another representative held the floor. He also asked that any representative desiring recognition please stand. Most of the representatives failed to overcome . their shyness and would stand only to speak, contloulng to raise their hands to attract the Cba1r 's atiention. Cba1rman Jones swung a mean gavel througbout the evening, but the cyClists seemed to appreciate being able to clearly hear the speakers. Arrangements for the Pine ConeRally were reviewed bY Howard Eble of the Highway Kings and the final details tied up. The site at Greenborn ~ountain proved to be unsatisfactory when the EBoard inspected it early in July a suitable ground was found at Democrat Hot Springs between Bakersfield and Lake Isabella on the Kern River . The Referee presented a letter from ibe AMA denying the RRC, AMA Tour A wards for the Pine Cone Event. Mr . Berry stated that only one tour per year In any District could be allowed to present tour awards. The big Pine Cone dinner will be served saturday evening August 31, with most of the activities occurring Sunday . Trophies are scheduled to be awarded Sunday evening at 7 p.m. The Democrat Hot Springs emergency telephone number for cyclists atiending the Pine Cone Rally Is (805) FA1rv1ew 2-0087. At the spec1al meeting RRC Referee B111 MUler predicted that the RRC would again need their own police force to control the rowdies and outlaws at the rally. Cba1rman Jones appointed MUler as Chief and he called for volunteer Indians to meet at his bome to layout plans and strategy. Approved prices for Pine Cone were $2.75 maU-ln and $3.50 post entries with ch11dren (under 14) $1.75. Meal-only tickets will be available for $2.00 at the POSt. Over sixty trophies will be given mostly for fun and games type contests. BIkes will not be judged in the dress competition, but clubs and individuals will be eligible. Many Questions Several questions were posed to the body by some of the representatives ~d were explained and answered. The Overlanders M.C . asked -whY the RRC was allowed 2 'point runs during the year when all member clubs were allowed only one. Cba1rman Jones explained that Pine Cone Is the original treasury builder rally for the RRC and was the firs t point run. The Spring Tour Is a benefit for the CIty of Hope and was made a point even1 to encourage rider participation . All clubs received a RaInbow flyer from Worthington, Ohio and the Overlanders wondered why ? "The RRC Is here to help every club," said one officer. " The AMA did it," RaInbow representative J . Boaz retorted, "any club can send their flyers to the AMA with the proper postage and the AMA will remaU them to all 97 chartered clubs in the DIstrict in lieu of releasing the list of DIstrict 37 clubs," Some discussion of how valuable a mailing of Road Rider announcements to competition clubs wouldbe, followed wlth no fir m conclusi ons. The Rainbows M,C. stated that they were happy wi th the servi ce. The Rebel Rousers M ,C . pointed out Wbat was thought to be an error on the calendar designating the wrong run as their point event. II was recalled that a former representative of the Rousers had chosen the date indicated on the calendar• The Ace of Clubs expreSsed the op1n1on that the point status of a run Is overestimated and cited !be Rebel Rouser's eKtremely poor turnout as a prIme example. The Toppers M ,C, confirmed that the point status didn't belp their run one bit. The Referee pointed out that many riders expected an overn1ghter. Cba1rman Jones charged the representatives with falling to read the RRC minutes to their clubs as one reason for the riders not knowing of the Rebel Rousers cbanges. He also pointed out that the Topper'S Big Bear Run ts anestabllshed tmlIlt. Hal Brown of the California Eagles stated that there were no Rebel Rouser flyers available In the Long Beach area. The Overlanders mentioned a lack of flyer mailings . Further discussion revealed that many of the clubs are using a mailing list that Is obselete by 3 to 5 years. Sherman Ames stated that the RRC malling list has been used only 5 times this year. His wife, Rosemay, of the Norwalk Centaurs M,C, keeps the RRC mailing list current to within 15 days of the last r uii'. 'Buckner of the Playboys recalled that there was a $10 deposit ($5 refunded on return) for the use of the RRC list and it couldn't be taken to .the club's meeting bouse. Sherman disclosed that the previously approved practice of chiu-ging had been abandoned and -all any RRC member had to do was request it. He did insist on a club member picking It up personally so he would know who to come after If the listwasn't returned. The discussion was ended with the Referee call1ng for the Orders of the Qly. The Playboys are In an unique position as a member of both the Sports Committee and !be Road Riders Committee. TheIr Rep resentatives stated that in spite of Bill Adam's statements to the contrary (made at a meeting when the RRC 's low treasury was bemoaned), the Sports Commlttee's allowance would not cover actual costs and loss of Income Bill and hts family will experience wb11e the represents the District at the convention. '!be motion was defeated with only 3 ayes. SAlES-SERVia PARTS· .........' BSAW ee CD C) Operation Motorcycle The Over1anders restated an oldstory - namely that the Operation Motorcycle Blood Bank Cba1rman could not be reached by telephone. His refusal to tssue blood also entered into the discussion which concluded with the RRC Cba1rman to contact Ken Jones for a report on blood bank status and a solution to the communications problem. The Artesta Pioneers M,C, and the Whittier Rejects M.C , tendered their resignations f rom the RRC and the body accepted them. Two by-law changes were read and automatically tabled until the september meeting when they will come up for discussion, amendment and action. Decker of the Topper'S M,C , was the author of both: 1. Any club not represented by at least one representative at 50% of RRC meeting shall be dropped from the RRC , 2. Any club not paying the$20.00assessment shall I m medtatel y be dropped from the RRC . The Never Readies of Riverside, the Channel Riders M .C , of West Covina, and the Callfornta Eagles of Long Beach requested and were re-instated to the RRC , The Majesties M,C, of Bell Gardens were accepted into membership on recommendation of the E-Board. The Golden Eagles M .C. and the Crusaders of So. Calif. M.C , requested E-Board approval for future membership. When being discussed, the by-law had not yet been assigned a place in the co nstitution. When the Cycle News reporter requested the section number for the record, RR C Referee B111 MU1er inquired just what club the reporter represented. Not accepting the eJrPlanat10n that the reporter and Cycle News were in effect representing all clubs and several hundred road riding outriders I n addition to the club members unable to attend the meetings, he further ch3llenged the reporter's propriety in asking for correct Information. I m m edtately the Rebel Rousers rose to the defense of the press and castigated the referee for hts poor taste and discourteous manner. When th e Rebel Rouser f1n1shed the other clubs gave him a round of applause. The motion to penalize non-payers of the $20 assessment was riot brought from the table for action, but the four clubs not yet paying the assessment; the Jaspers , Playboys, Rejects and Cal1fornia RaInbows M ,C, were specWcally questioned on their intention to pay. One replied that they intended to pay as soon as they had a business meeting. " - iW • l I BEACH CInES CYCLES 525 W E I ca. ,. ~.I . sa. CI......
