A tur nout of 93 entri es was sufficient 10 r un motos in all classes except the 1000c Novi ce class wher e heat races and a Main Event were needed. I n the first moto of th e 50cc event, Steve Nichols (second in current lightwei ght point standings in Dis!. 37) fell on the second lap of the first race suffering a bruised shoulder and, needless to say , a jolt to his ego. Ironically, the leader of the Dist. 37 lightweights, F r ed Edwards, had his troubles too. While leading the first m oto in the 250cc Expert class, Fred caught his recently broken r i ght foot on a marker tire at the sIde ot the track. Gary Scott went on to win the 100cc class. The Powder Putt event developed i nto an unusually close race between sandy Lambert and Diane Connally, both on Hodakas, with Sandy 'the final winner. Eric Olesen, rIding Steve Scott's Bultaco Bandido, held a consIstent lead to win all three 500cc . Amateur/Expert motos in excellent form. The combined Amateur / Expert Open Class event ended wi th Triumph- mounted Ben F akk eldy th e wi nner , tollowed by Terry Moriarty, also on a TrIumph. The three motos in lh1s class wer e ver y unusual I n that the finishing order of each race had no r ese mblance to the order I n eI the r of the other two. John Ri ce rode , the Open Class on a bor r owed bike after di scove r Ing a broken fuel petcock on his Honda . Even with the assorted i ndivI dual troubles throughout the day , the event ended well, and we' ll look forwar d to another excellent race at A delanto by the Desert Phantoms pt George A .F.B.
