I n nearby Viclorv1lle, Calif., held another AMA 17 Scrambles point r un at
A delanto, Cal. on June 9 with great
suc ce ss.
A tur nout of 93 entri es was sufficient
10 r un motos in all classes except the
1000c Novi ce class wher e heat races
and a Main Event were needed.
I n the first moto of th e 50cc event,
Steve Nichols (second in current lightwei ght point standings in Dis!. 37) fell
on the second lap of the first race suffering a bruised shoulder and, needless to
say , a jolt to his ego. Ironically, the
leader of the Dist. 37 lightweights, F r ed
Edwards, had his troubles too. While
leading the first m oto in the 250cc Expert class, Fred caught his recently
broken r i ght foot on a marker tire at the
sIde ot the track. After rega1nlng control
of his Yamaha, he went on to win the
race, but his troubles had only begun.

At the turn at the end of the runout after
the fi nish line, unable to support his bike

of the 100cc Expert, unable to use his
injured toot in th e corner after the
jump , he fell again, lh1s time convinced
to quit for the day. Gary Scott went on to
win the 100cc class.
The Powder Putt event developed i nto
an unusually close race between sandy
Lambert and Diane Connally, both on
Hodakas, with Sandy 'the final winner.
Eric Olesen, rIding Steve Scott's Bultaco Bandido, held a consIstent lead to
win all three 500cc . Amateur/Expert
motos in excellent form. The combined
Amateur / Expert Open Class event ended
wi th Triumph- mounted Ben F akk eldy th e
wi nner , tollowed by Terry Moriarty, also
on a TrIumph. The three motos in lh1s
class wer e ver y unusual I n that the
finishing order of each race had no r ese mblance to the order I n eI the r of the
other two. John Ri ce rode , the Open
Class on a bor r owed bike after di scove r Ing a broken fuel petcock on his Honda .
Even with the assorted i ndivI dual troubles throughout the day , the event ended
well, and we' ll look forwar d to another
excellent race at A delanto by the Desert
