I WAS THI RSTY ! I would like to tIlank the following for the water they generously offered on tbe Greenborn Enduro; tbe people under tbe bridge just before Wagon Wheel, the two boys at Garlock, and the man at the road crossing in that miserable sand wash just before the flnlsh at Pearblossom. I would like to give special thanks to the man In Red Rock Canyon who was bandIng out Ice cubes! I would also like to thank Doo Woods for tuning my bike at Ridgecrest and for gassing It all along the way. Without the aid of these people I never would have made It. MIKE ADAMS Engr. APPREDATES RESCUE SQUAD, CHOPPER During the Rams MC' s E ur o pe an Scrambles be ld at Hi Vista on May 31, I got careles s enough to find mys elf comIng to with the Radi o Rescue Squad workIng like mad on me . They were ettlcient and considerate of my Injuries . They told me I could us e either the a mbulance or th e hellcopter for a fast trip to the Antelope Valley Hos pi tal. I took the easy way out, naturally, and they returned me to the pit area wher e I was put In the " infuriated palm tree" and flown to Lancaste r . I would like everyone to know how much easier both the rescue group and the helicopter people made It for me , and giv e my thanks to everyone that help ed, inc luding the Dis trict 37 Sports Committee for having the " choppe r" available . J1M MERRIKEN Pr ospector s M.C. Los Angel es, Ca11t. HUNDREDS, SPEAK UP! As the age-old controversy rages as to the lack of time allocate d the l OOcc class motorcycles, our club came up with an Inte r e s ti ng Idea. We are very s eriously conte mplating a lOOcc-only Gran d Prix on an 8/ 10 mile surfaced " T T" course here In the San Diego area. WIth only halt of the support of these little ring-dings , we should come up with a wow of an allalr . The race would be broken up into the three AMA classe s of Novice, Amateur and Expert with respective 25, 35 and 50 lap finals deciding the winne rs of each of the classes. The length of the finals Involved should prove very a ttracti ve to the rock hopping clientel e as the distance would mor e than ' alleviate the advantages of the hot little "1'1''' rigs. In this area we hear so much about the L.A . hot shoes, but the y always seem to run in the dust down here. Le t us settle once and for all the question of just who are the lightweight "hotshoes" In southern California. The adjacent s tates I am certain would also contribute grea tly to the occasion. It would be a saturday and Sunday type Bttalr with practice (NO EXCUSES) all day saturday and the races the next day. . The track we are using, Mesa SPeedway, Is In excellent condition and It would be a perfect test of speed, skill, and most certainly stamina. Our next club meeting Is sometime the end of lhls month and at our last club meeting we decided that perhaps a letter to your paper statIng our intentions would draw some attention and comment. The reaction wl1l determine our final decision. Now Is the time for all of tbe long neglected lOOcc riders to speak out on their own beha1t for the benefit of what wl1l probably be an annual afta.lr for this fasctnatlng little' class. All I am asking for Is a post card from any interested lightweight rider with the statement that he Is interested written upon It along with his return address. Address to 'The Experts M.C ., 215 Paden no., spring Valley, CallI. , . EARL E. ROLOF F, P r es . The Experts M.C . spring Valley , Calif. OPEN LETTER TO THE AMA you have to say what Is right and wro ng with them , witho ut first consulting a ma jority of the r ider s? Many of the r iders, myself defini tely Included, have disagreed with the decisions and actions of the AMA for qulte a while, but until now It has been tolerated. I feel that this dec ision and all de c I s Ion s concer ning professloual compe ti tion should be put to a Vote of all the riders and the decision based on the opinion of the majority. I think that the results should be published with the names and numbers of the riders voting and the way they voted. ThIs is supposed to be a democratic society that we are living in , and the AMA Is supposedly a de mocratic organization. I have yet to see the AMA do one thing that has not been dictatorial. I will be attending the next race, with compression release Installed and ' I do not Intend to ride without It. I hope all otber riders wl1l do the same. It tbe AMA can be made to understand that the riders do NOT agree with their decisions and me thods of running races , then professional racing wl1l be one hundred per cent better for all those involved. " r ide these mo torcycl es, so what r ight do NEW BARNETT CLUTCH PLATE ~«JUta~~ By Barbara Adams Dahms There are those who say " motor cycl e people never stick together." I think there Is some truth In this, and a very good reason for It. Motorcycle people are Indepe nden t people. A l1klng for doing things your own way in your own time Is one of the reasons people ride cycles. But lhls Is not saying " mot or cycle people can' t stick together ••.it tbere Is good reason to!' We have alre3I:\Y proved this In the helmet hassle. And we're g0Ing to be pr oving It mor e and more because there are a lot of good reasons ahead, Whatever they tell us in theory about our " de mocracy" and majority rule an d SUch, in practice, government in our country Is by speclal-interest groups, It Is a constantly shifting mul ti - party system, not cons tructed as political parties but as temporaryarrangementsofpeople who want to see a certain lhlng done. 1 wouldn 't beg in to say whether this Is a desirable or undesirable form of government, It Is s imply what Is here. And the fi r s t step In the accomplishment of certain goals Is to get together with others who desire the same goals. Goals To Achieve Motorcycle people have a lot of goals to achieve. The fi r s t major one was a rather negative one , the pr even tion of regulation in apparel. But there are many positive ones. Some of them concern our dirt- riding r ights, the acquisi tion of more riding area an d, the prote ction of what we already have ••• Some of them concer n the r ight to tralnlng facilities, in the public schools. Some of them concern the consideration of tbe motorcycle In traffic engin eering. Some co ncer n the protection of the motorcycle fr om arbitrary restric tions and enforcement. You can probably think of as many mor e . We have to stick together to achieve the m. When we speak In the legislature we speak a unlted voi ce . Whatever beneflls one of us, benefits all of us . We have seen that Is works already, It will continue to work as long as we continue to believe It. PHOTOGRAPHERS LOOK!
