Hold1ngdownsecond was steve Norberg. Then came the 250cc class, and Marfred Heyrend, Yamaha-mounted, was determined to take the win. Ray Vatne barrelled right throi!gh to second and tried a pass on the outside for first. He didn't pass however , he went down, but walked away. 'Ibis put Joe Henry, Ducatlmounted, IDto second place, right behind Marfred all the way. Heyrencl made no mistakes, so Joe had no chance to pass , leaving him ID second. Terry Goff (Yamaha) fought hard for tbtrd and t1n1shed there. The beginner's MaID was won by Terry Henry on a Honda. This was" Terry's first win at Chico Speedway and he sure rode a beautiful race. Terry is from Sacramento, and has been do1Dg real well in that area. He won his heat also. The 200Cc Beginners Main was won by steve Norberg on a Yamaha. The race was a Uttle mixed up; Tony Fairless and Joe McMlllln were battling for first and both , getting over-anxious and sliding out, were put out, leaving the race for Steve to take. With the 250cc Beginners MaID there was a real good battle for first place between Mel Nicholas and Doug Sisemor e. And Larry Craig on a Bultaco wor ked his way through the pac k to take the lead and hold It for a wb1le. Then he made a mistake by going out too far and Doug Sisemore (Bultaco) got by. Larry mad e no m1sta.kes and f1n1shed in front . For a little extra exc itement a t Chico, we had a JAP speedway bike exhibition for a fe w laps. The r ider of the bike was a Chico regular, Gary Willis . The course at Chico is the onlY area track which is smooth and fast enough for this kind of bike. Willis put on a show which had fellow riders gaping and the people ID the stands frozen ID their seats. 'Ibis bike, built ID 1939, still goes as good as new. (Results on page 20) ..
