Tbe 1igIItwe1gbts were 011 tbe Sl:artIng
line before the tra1lbIkes t1D1sbed tbe1r
first moto and there was a little delay
before tbey were off. Most of them had
_liched tbe traIlbike start and tbey kept
a_y from the ditch. Then came a sbort
straigtat that fWllleIed down to a tight
left turn at tbe bottom of a steeep jumP.
After tbe jllmp was a bard right turn
ooto tbe course which immediately
dropped Into a big ditch and !beD shot
nearly straight up over the [ump, A bard
left and Bob Riley had the lead 00 his
Greeves with Jimmy Stein starting to
gain as they wound through the "S" turn
and up the long uptull; Across the top of
the h1ll !bey went, then down the long
flrebreak with the steep sandy section at
the bottom RUey began to pull a_y. A
couple more turns were followed by
rolling bills about 75 feet apart on the
tops but !be bottoms were almost a .. V"
and really jarred the riders. The course
turned past some trees, dropped Into a
gulley, went across a short straight and
up tbe stde of a h1ll. Then Into second
aDd turn rtght bard, bounce down the h1ll
for about forty yards, fiy 011 the end of
the bill aDd land about 30 or 40 feet later.
Easing off to tbe left they swing around
to tbe rtght over two small sandy bills
!IleA down tbe second hill Into a hard left
at tbe bottom and up the side of another
short sleep bill. The rtders fly over the
top of th1s and, as they land, turn right,
go down through a dip into an easy lett
turn, tben a hard iigM: and left and down
_ the stra1ght past tbe flnisb line. Just as
they reach top speed they have tIn1shed
one laP and haft to grab bath brakes to
slow enough to survive the ditch. Stein's
Husky really gained on RUey's Greeves
down the straight and he almost caught
the leader but RUey beat him to the "S"
turn and managed to pull a_y again In
!be turns withHusJcy-mountedDaveFIetc!ler lhlrd.
1b1ngs remained the same during the
second laP but in the lhlrd Stein did a
b8d tII1ng wb1Ie coming over a h1ll and
put his Husky out of business. On the
fourth laP Jimmy Tbomas .(Greeves)
f1naIly managed to get past Jim Piette
( Kawasak1) for tb1rd. RUey was _y out
In tbe lead and then, on the f1nal laP,
Thomas passed Fletcher to lake second
beh1nd Riley.
TIle Heavyweight class started
smoothly and David Hernandez grabbed
the lead on his 360 Husky and held It for
ODe laP only to break down on the second,
leaving Triumph-mounted Jim Bruns In
the lead until John Bailey edged his
