LODI: ANUDDER MUDDER _ _ Story by Dal e Mc K i nno n Photos by E d wa rd Johnson Several weeks ago the Lodi M oC held a mud run, and I mean a MUDDER o The setting was the same on March 17 except the mud wasn' t as deep; the course bad been changed to ellmlnate the water . The sun came out , drying things out considerably, and It turned Into a very fas t track . There weren't many Amateurs and Exper ts In the 100 class so they ran them with the Novices, Novices riding fo r their own brass . In all three mo tos Ron Lon g got off the llne like gang busters . He woul d hol d It f or several laps then Jim Childr ess would over tak e him and go on for the wi n...except In the last one when Ron wouldn 't let hi m by. Mar k Musl co gave hi m a pretty r ough Um e of It for sever al laps in the last one and had to settle for second over all . Mike Strobel took top honors i n the 250 Novice motos by Cloyse Hol land second, in three very close battles. Not too many big boys showed up but the ones who did put on a good show . Mike Siebert was the big gun I n the Open Am at eur -Exper t motos , He took all three rather handi ly. Dale (Flying T i ger) Grey and Paul McKenzie put on the best show of the day. Fir st one woul d have the l ead and the other one wi th hi s front wheel I n hi s back pocket, Ihen one would go down. The next lap sam e Ihlng except the other way r ound. They kept thi s up all th r ee races with the Ti ger overall second, and he ear ned It. Th e mo st In t er esUng races of the day was In the Open Novice. In those Blll Evans was Invari ably late to the line. The flag woul d dr op Just as he got there; that way he got a good r unni ng start . He and the starter seeme d to have It plan ned as It was per fec tly executed every time. He onl y got a third the fi r st time but managed to pull off a wi n the last two. Som etimes a guy might be la te fo r one, but you wouldn' t think all three. Each moto started of f with Stan Anderson holding a fan tastic ' lead, no one within miles of him . Jerry sage and Stan Stanton made the show , however.
