Getting re-acqualnted with this type of cour se proved difficult and painful for a number of riders. The two ambulances on hand were kept busy all day, and at one poInt the MaIn Events were hel d up for about twenty mIn utes while both were busy transporting Injured riders to the hospi tal. Down••• And Up Bullaco rider Mark Brelsf ord (16w) displaying fine form while winning 250cc Expert Main ahead of eventual 3rd place flnl sher #7 Dayld Hauen (Kawasaki). After a long winter of rough and muddy tracks, DIstrict 35 and 36 riders got a taste of the fast, smooth stuff on March 10 when the South County Motorcycle Club held a scrambles at their track near HoU1ster. The performance of the day was turned In by Mark Brelsford (l6W) who com pletely dominated the 250cc Expert class . He won the heat In this class by a large margin and was leading the main by the same amount when he sUd out on the next to la st lap . Somehow he managed to keep his Bultaco running. re - mounted and passed Don Castro who had gotten by him during the fall. _ Castro came back strong in the Open Expert class which Brelsford did not enter . He led from the beginning of the race and was challenged only by JIm Rice (I), DIstrict 36 high point man 10 1967. Rice was pushing Castro hard when he went down and out of the race. Ken DU la (6 35) then moved Into second place on his super-fast Honda 350. Cas tro was riding a Triumph 500, so the first two . finishers In the Open Class were on machine s smaller than 650cc . Tha t doesn' t happen too often. The 250cc Novice Main was, as usual, a desperately fought battle. Three riders went down In a heap off the starting l1ne but one of them, Bultaco-mounted Jan Mlreault, manag ed to Ignore his newly acquired bruises and tak e first place af ter the restart. Bultaco swept the first four places 10 this event, and Hodaka took home all the trophies In the 100cc novice class. (Results on page 16) • Suzuki makes -t' I • .
