Richard R. Orth has been named to
the newly created pos t of marketing division manager at U.S. Suzuki Motor
Corporation. Orth vacates the Western
sales Manager of BMW products. He will
assume his new duties with U.S. Suzuki
Motor Cor poration at their corporate
headquarters In santa Fe Springs, Callf.
As manager of the marketing division,
Orth will direct responsibility for sales,
advertising and service.
President osamt Suzuki stated when
making the announcement that, "with
the company's revolutionary 500/Flve
sportcycle - the world's !lrst production
500cc dual-stroke _ and the new Suzuki
TM-250 Moto-Cross serving as leaders,
Suzuki plans an all out expansion In her
dealer network and a vigorous assault

According to Suzuki, "in addition to
the 500/Flve and TM 250 Moto-Cross,
1968 will see the Introduction of rive
new Suzuki models" and backing Suzuki's
aggressive posture, "Increased adverUsing in both broadcast and enthusiast
print media."
Orth , family man and father of two,
has been a longtime California resident
and presently makes his home In orange,
a short distance from Suzuki's dtstlnctive santa Fe Springs offices alongside
the well known santa Ana Freeway.

The Washington sser-s Motorcycle
blub of Seattle, Washington put on the
!lrst .1968 road event for the Northwest
Morotcycle Association on Jan. 28. This
Association Includes Northern Or egon,
the state of Washington, and the Greater
Vancouver, BrlUsh Columbia area.
In bitter cold, with the termperature
ran ging from 18 to 42 degr ees depending on the particular secUon of the run,
thirty-eight people r ode agalnst the el ements as well as the clock on a Road
Enduro. The run was well marked over
har d surface roads and was long enough
even though It was a mere seventyeight miles . Most riders sald It seem ed
like a couple of hundred.
Three women rode solo and there were
nine women passengers In the event. In
the solo class Mary Ann Shumaker,
Bellevue , Wn. a member of the Motor
Maids of Washington, came In well In
!lrst place with an accumulated loss of
only 25 points. Lori Cooper, Hoquiam,
Wash., Hoquiam Ramblers was second
with a loss of 45 points and Corinne
Christenson, MM of wasn., a very close
third with a los s of 4t points.
In the couples' class Mr. and Mrs.
Bill McDonell of Seattle came In with
the best time of the day and lost only
9 points.
First place male rider went to Art
Clark, Seattle, Redmond Pioneers, 23
points, closely followed by Robert Hallgren, Tacbma, Tacoma Yellow Jackets,
24 points, and Jim Macy, Tacoma, Tacoma Yellow Jackets wtth a loss of 26
points, third.
A perfect day was enjoyed by all with
the best news that not one accident took
place and only one breakdown. This was
an electrical shortage on the machine of
Edward Warde of Bellevue which meant
that he had a warm trtp , home with the
pickup riders In the drag truck.
Clubs represented Included the Tacoma Yellow Jackets, Tacom a; .Redmond
Pioneers, Redmond; Hoquiam Ramblers,
Hoquiam; Motor Maids of Washington,
Seattle, and Thunderblrds of Everett, all
clubs being In the state of Washington.
Tacoma Yellow Jackets was presented,
with the Largest Club Trophy and Gordy
Acker of the Hoquiam Ramblers went
home with the Long Distance Rider
Trophy .
