By Mike Capallte M te r a we ek' s delay brought on by a lack of co-ope ration by the wea ther man, the 1968 TT s eason got underway a t the Trojan Speedway In Sou th Gate last Fr i day , Feb. 2. It started r ight off with an upset In the 100cc clas s when last year' s 199cc clas s cha mpion Gary BaUey was beaten In the Trophy Dash by a lad down from Bak er s field. Young Mike Lane, r idin g a Hodaka for the firs t ti me on the Trojan TT course, shot off the line for the lea d In the Dash and was never headed for the full three laps. Bai ley, ha d to be content to settle for second, but made up for It by coming r ight back out and winning the 250cc Trophy Dash hands down on hi s Nick Nicholson sponsored Greeves. 'The 100cc Maln Eve nt proved to be a repeat of the Trophy Dash with Mike Lane doing a beautiful job of r iding for the full te n laps and looking r eal s moo th on the corners. Second place again went to Bailey with Jimmy Raymond coming in for a strong third. As if to ma ke up for his loss In the 100cc class , Bailey again proved hi ms el! the man to be a t in the 250c c class by taki ng hom e a win In the Mai n Event, but not without some trouble as he was fourth man out of the first cor ner and had to work his way up through the pack to take the lead. Larr y Verdoorn on a Bullaco finished s econd an d Danny J ones, als o on a Bultaco, wound up thi rd. Al though they ran together, the ride r s wer e s eparated in to Junior and Senior div isions for the trophy presentations with Gary Sco tt on a Honda be i ng the first Junior rider finishing In the 100cc cl ass while Larry Ver doorn was the fi r s t Ju nior In the 250cc Class . 'The TT will r un again tonight (Feb. 9) with the classes be ing divided Into J unior an d Senio r to give the new r ider a chance to win some brass. They will also r un a program of shor t trac k on the same pr ogram if the entries warrant It. The gate open s at 6:00 p .m. for practice, so get there early and get In s ome practice. All that Is needed to ride is a membership In an a ccr edit ed motorcycle organization such as ACA AMA, AFM , etc. As the event Is ACA sanctioned, any rider holding an ACA Senior Com petitio n Ca r d will have any points that he may get credi ted toward the ACA TT or Short Track Championship for the year • (Resul ts on page 16)
