BENEFIT RACE

The benefit race sponsored for the
widow of well-known professional rider
Travis Petton was held under threatening
gray skies and an accompanying chilly
breeze at the Dehesa TTcourse near San
Diego, Cal. Intermittent rain had plagued
the area for two days prior to race date
and theevent itself was on a questionable
basis.
Despite tbese additional bandicaps,
the Hi-BoOts MC went ahead full steam,
had the track in excellent condition and
were rewarded with a very fine turnout
on Sunday, November 26.
Dave Knuner of the Poway area picked
UP a bargain on a new Honda donated by
South Bay Honda of Chula Vista, his total
investment being a single $1.00 ticket
purchased that morning at the track.
Many other fans won prizes ranging from
helmets to tires donated by most of the
other dealers in the vicinity.
At the end of the day, the riders

themselves showed a tremendous amount
of sportsmanship by donating their trophy money to the cause. Mrs. Petton was
presented with over $700 from the day's
efforts. All in all, the only thing to surpass the financial success of the day was
the spirited racing activity from the very
first white flag to the black-flagging of
the final event in a torrential downpour.
The 100cc Novice heats were dispatched with efficiency and It was almost
clear from the beginning who the eventual
winner would be. C. Byers on a beautifully prepared Van- Tech Honda turned back
the opposition in his heat as well as the
Main. The Main was run an abbreviated
