Roberts of Sun Valley, Call!. won tbe motorcycle class of tbe first Mexican 1,000 mile Rally last week. Roberts and Smitb, botb familiar personalities to Cycle News readers, completed tbe gruelling, crosscountry race from Tijuana to La Paz, Baja Calif. in 28 bours and 48 minutes, setting a new class record. They flnlsbed second overall, after being lost close to four hours near tbe end. A Volkswagenpowered "Myers Manx" dune buggy did tbe run in 27 hours and 38 minutes. Third overall and 2nd motorcycle was a 1965 Triumpb ridden by Dick Hansen of La Mesa, Call!. and John Barnes from san Diego witb 29 br., 13 min. The previous record holders, brotbers Bud and Dave Ekins of Hollywood, swapped off on a 1964 Triumph to finish in 31 br., 11 min.
