It wasn't long before one realized that this was to be a battle between Gary Conrad (Greeves) and Ron Nelson. Gary Is a past master at both Forst and castaic courses and his Greeves' are always in perfect shape. But before Ron got burt, be was a master in the desert and remember some of his Corriganville rides 00 a 500 Triumph? But, said some, can be and can that Montesa bold uP? Both did. On that crnthen bogged down In OIle place and waIt Axtbelm and Gary Conrad passed blm. Ron went bard after them and repassed Axtbelm. For a wb1le It didn't seem that be could catcb Conrad, then Gary made- a mistake of trying to pass a slower rider where be souldn't and, wboops, there went Ronnie into the lead! Would you believe that Montesa-distrtbutor Kim Kimball (who also rode and looked real good) was floating six Inches off the ground? We were told that Ronnie Is going to be riding his 360 'Tesa out In the desert too, so Nelson's back with a bangr Viva! Mention must be made of the two young riders competing in the second section, Jimmy stein (Husky) and TIm Hart (C-Z). They are fine little rtders and with a bit more seasoning, watch out! They really have It! stein ended uP second over-all and Hart 5th. U Gary Conrad was defeated in the 250 class he made uP for it in the 500 on his 360 Greeves, against some formidable opposition. J.N. Roberts (Husky) could keep uP for a while, but be broke a chain once and then unloaded in the sand in lIDOl:ber moto; steve Hurd (Matcbless) looked good and ended uP third over-all but we noticed that slowly but surely !be heavy bUtes are ba~ to give way to the lighter more maneuverable machines in these events. walt Axtbelm, always a man to watch in moto- .: . 10427 Prairie, In&le_d • (near Centllr)' BI ....) • • : Phone (213) 673-5562 ; • • ******************* RI d. numb.. 6. The day ended with the trophies being given out on the spot. We don't know If there will be another A.C.A. mota-cross at Forst before November IS-19th, but we bope so. The November date Is for !be International which will follow the Hopetown International and will be worth seeIng as this will give the Europeans a real moto-cross circuit to run on, and in this past year, we have developed a little more competition for them than last year, thanks to all these motO-crosses whlcb have been running. We feel that Gary Conrad can give anyone a run for bls money, regardless of where be's from or what be's riding! (Results on page 16) BAIDSESTOIE i FOR THE NAME OF YOUR NEAREST DEALER So.
