EVERY FRIDAY THE FINISH LINE RACES 7p.m. PRACTICE S•'15pm START By Roxy Rockwood The best ever at Sacramento and what an afternoon of racing! The mile is still King in any race fan's book and there may be more on tap for '68. Veteran George Roeder and new ace Fred Nix put on a show that topped all others and it makes one wonder just how much better a mile race can be. mthalltheexcitement~~~~ f • _ _~ mento the National point race was nearly lost in the shuffle. The lead has now changed four times this season and Roeder has come from way back to take over with only the big point paying Carlsbad Road race this week and the 'small€r Oklahoma halfmile the following week. Roeder. Nixon and Lawwill will run the point battle down to the wire. ,All three are entered for Carlsbad and all three are some of the finest road racers on these shores. BAlA Tight Point Race More than enough points are at stake at Carlsbad to wrap up the title for anyone of the three riders with Nixon getting a slight nod over his two opponents. This Sunday will tell the story and the Carlsbad action track should be jammed for the big one and final road race of the year down there. ,All of the factory teams are entered with the various teams having been to Carlsbad warming up this past week. Defe'nding champ at Carlsbad is Cal Rayborn who won the recent Indy 110-mile National and -is a strong pre-race favorite at Carlsbad, although he has not been back to his home road race course since he won the title there last year. A break for Nixon, Roeder and Lawwill, to say the least. Carlsbad will also be a one-timeonly showing ror the factory 250 teams from Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki. Hammer and Nixon, the two big guns both days at Daytona. are ready to go both times out in the big and small bike events and the 250 race on Sunday should be a BranBurner. Nix is nnt known for his road racing but is the track record holder at Daytona at over 140 mph. He will ha ve the same engine with him at Carlsbad and that long straightaway should give the fans a show of this raw speed packed by the Oklahoman. Three Days Straight Out of town fans will ha ve three days of racing as the Ascot halfmile is again in action on Friday night with the Novice and Sportsmen road racers going at Carlsbad on ~turday afternoon. Some of the best pavement talent in the nation will be riding in the Novice class on saturday along with the Sportsme n who can ride any size machine they want. including production street hikes. There were a lot of important racing people at ~cramento and they will be on hand for Carlsbad. Important people in the light that they can and will be doing much for professional racing in the near future. They pick ed a good one last Sunday and now a completely different type of racing at Carlsbad this coming Sunday.
