Tbe location is in the desert,
S close to a spot wbere European
~
SCrambles were once held. It·s off
Hwy. 395. out toward Phelan Road.
-. Turning left on Phelan Rd., the spot
is approximately two miles (or three
dips) later.
There, on top of a hill on the
.side of the railroad tracks is a dirt
road. which heads to 'the left. The
road branches into two paths. both
of whicb lead to a small (20x20')
brick building.
One road is clear. the other has
two cables - one stretched across
it. There are no flags or other markings on the cables.
Hazelwood's bike cleared the
first foot-high cable but he was
abruptly halted by the highe r one.
and thrown from his machine. He was
injured, tho'ugh fortunately not seriously, and wanted to let other riders
know of the hazard.
Hazelwood may not have heen the
first rider to com e to grief at that
particular location. for he found a
broken clutch handle lying close by.
Other riders are urged to let us
know when they encounter dangerous
obstacles such as this, and our
thanks to Ken Hazelwood for his
~ompt warning.

Two AMA staff members will

If the congress idea is adopted
the first official meeting of the
